How would I go about setting up an AFPR?

This is going on my friends 85 305TPI A4. How would I set a good baseline psi? Do I need a fuel pressure gauge to set it?

LBC,

1. You must be a pretty good friend to have around;

2. Experiment;

3. Yes.

HINT: Without further modifications, you may not get much if any gain from an AFPR on a stock engine. the factory got pretty close with their fixed setting. The '85 already has a better cam profile than some of the later TPIs, so you can experiment, but should use a gauge to know where you left off and where you may be going next.

Besides, it's a good excuse to pick up a useful tool. I'm sure Mrs. LBC won't mind too much...

Thanks. I must really be a good friend because I am going to be spending a good part of my spring break modding his car. We are putting on siamesed runners, 180 thermastat, ttop weatherstripping, porting the plenum and the base, headers and a catback.
