Chips Chips Chips....wtf

All I ever hear people talkn about is Chip this and Chip that (ppl @ my school, not just the ricers too) Do they really make a difference in OTHER cars. I know this is not 3rd Gen but still tech. I know that for our cars Hypertech(off the shelf) and such COMPARED to Fastchips.com's custom ones. I don't understand why people will spend 110 on a chip that only does a little when they could gain more buy spending $40 on a CUSTOM one for THEIR 88 Camaro/Firebird (or whatever), not just a 88 Camaro/Firbird(or whatever).

6-Spd,

You can gain performance and power by custom tuning a PROM. Perhaps you should visit the DIY PROM Board and see what's going on there in the microelectronic world of NV-RAM...

Vader I believe he means the run of the mill over the counter chips that Ricers and pop culture have adopted as "tha mod" to do to be cool, because we all know chips add 40 hp

People who are uneducated will believe anything they hear brudda.

Yeah but what i mean is do they add THAT much power to the Eclipes and Civis and Golfs and such seeing that they are not exacty performance cars from the start.

In turbo cars they can give especially decent gains by changing the boost and/or the spark curve for dramatic effect.

NA they don't benefit nearly as much. But still they are calibrated for cheap gas, etc from teh factor, so obviously if you really tweak on it you can do something. And a lot of those crazy bastards pay a lot of money for that kind of work.

how much hp does .5 sec and 3 mph equal?
Best $70 mod I did SLP chip.

Side note, whatch out for some eclipses. talons, laser (DSMs), really low 12/high 11s with street tires and stock bottom ends. Damn AWD and 26 psi of boost.

A stock turbo DSM runs low 15's stock, bump up the boost and exhaust = mid to low 14's.
