Fuel Pressure Relief... I'm going to shoot myself
Ok guys, please help me on this, this one's been giving me a really bad headache. I have a '91 GTA with the 5.7L engine. I need to relieve fuel pressure because two of my injectors are busted and need to be replaced. All this right after I just finished taking off and putting my plenum and runners back on for porting and polishing. Anyway, it says in my manual that to relieve the pressure, to go to the fuse block and unplug a fuse labeled FP, only on my car, there is no &%*$#@^ fuse labeled FP. Instead, there are two fuses labeled INJ 01 and INJ 02. In my car's owner's manual, it says these fuses are "Fuel Injector Feed #1" and "MPFI Injectors #2." Now, do I just pull these injectors and then let the car run till it dies?
It really sucks to be stopped by a problem as simple as this...

To be quite honest with you, I have NEVER relieved the fuel pressure before taking off the fuel rails. Its honestly not that big of a deal, and isnt under very high pressure at all. Just undo the fuel fittings in front of the manifold slowly, and the pressure will bleed itself off.
Good luck!

I have a TBI and it wasn't under that much pressure either, just make sure you unscrew the gas cap. If you still want to relieve the pressure like the book mentions, the fuse is located next to the battery right in front.

yeah the whole pulling the fuse bit is a waste of time. But like I said make sure you unscrew the gas cap, especially on a hot day. I forgot to do it once and was wondering why fuel wouldn't stop leaking from the TBI fuel lines the gas tank was building pressure, it was pretty hot out that day also.
On your 91, the fuse by the battery should be the one that your fuel pump and ECM runs off of. But personally, I just wrap a rag around the schrader valve and push a screwdriver tip into it to relieve fuel pressure. It's a little bigger deal on a TPI than a TBI since there's about a 30-35 psi difference between the two.

I believe the fuse holder should have a red wire and a brown wire leaving it.
But yeah, I've never relieved pressure the "textbook" way, either. Just don't do this with a hot engine, while you're smoking a cigarette, and welding, while playing with firecrackers
