car idle is reallly high!!
ok i just swapped in a 350 for my 305. still carbed and has the ecm. the engine has a mild cam in it, and we havnet fine tuned the timing yet. Is this enough to make the idle stay high?? i think part of my problem is that my throtle is sticking. if so, how do you fix that?? any suggestions on how to fix/adjust the idle?

Do you still have the CC Quad, or did you put something else on there? I thought I saw somewhere that you were putting on a 600 Holley. Just thought I would ask, need some more info.

Alright, I'm not up to date on those Carbs, I junked mine and got a Holley w/vac advance dist.
I would take the throttle cable off and move it by hand to see if its sticking, with the car running of course. Um... I would think your timing would have to be way to far advanced to make it run idle at 2000. Check for vacum leaks. Check the choke. Did you let the motor warm up to see if it would idle back down? A/F mixture, is it right? All plug wires in the right places? (I've done that one, its amazing how well the car will run with 2 wires swapped around, 5 and 7 were switched for me)
Just a few things to check. Hopefully Vader will give us some more options.

it will kick back down IF you move it by hand so yo u can move it back to the original spot. if i tap the gas, it kinda just climbs cause its sticking. i think thats my prolbem......a sticking throtle, i also think my choke is bad,, can you adjust the choke?? i know all my vacume lines are good, everything thats not in use is capped off (air pump lines).....wow i guess i just answered my own original question.
thanks for making me think!

No problem.
There should be an adjusting screw on the linkage. Back it out a few turrns and see where its at then. The screw is on the bottom of the linkage BTW.
Maybe a stiffer return spring could help.
