I am extremely confused on this. I'm looking at a rebuild kit for my dads 350 in his truck. Well the website lets yo select the bearing size. It has standard, .030, .020, 0.010, and 0.001. And its the same way for the rod bearings. Can someon please explain this to me.

I wouldn't attempt a rebuild if you don't understand this simple concept. But let me explain anyway.

When an engine gets "rebuilt" most of time it's necessary for the machine shop to grind the crank down by removing material in order to get the surface nice and smooth again just like was new. Well since you remove material, you will need a different size bearing. If the machine shop cuts the crank .010 under, then you need a 0.010 bearing and so on... Same thing with the rods. If everything is left stock and no griding was done then go with STD (standard) bearings.

 

see if you can get someone to mic the crank b4 you order anything.
