question on brakes PLEASE HELP
question on brakes PLEASE HELP
I posted this in the brakes section and nobody would reply and i could really use your help guys,, what would cause the front brakes to act like they are sticking after they warm up and cause the car to shimmy until i speed up to get the calipers to release?
The car had me stuck at a like because the front brake i think one of them locked up for a minute then it released.
My father said that he heard that it could be from a bad brake line. and he also said that some of chevy's cars used plastic pistons in there calipers and if i have those then i should probly replace them to.. is he right???!!!!!
the car is a 89 camaro rs v8
PLEASE REPLY!!!!!!!!!!!

also
the car never had this problem until it sat in storage for 5 months, the first signs of problem were that the car pulled to the right when i would hit the brakes..... now they stick after the brakes get hot.....
RE: Locking brakes
Hi 89 red RS,
Jack up the front of the car and get someone to sit inside the car, now rotate the wheel and get your buddy to put on the brakes, now take his foot off and turn the wheel again, is it sticking?
If not go to the other wheel.
If it is, take the wheel off and watch what happens when you do the same test again, chances are it is just a sticking piston, check the dust boot isnt split, if so renew it!
Spray some penetrating lube WD40 or similar around the piston, hopefully this will release whatever gunge is sticking it.
Remember dont get any lube on your disc's or pads (unless you never want to stop again!)
If this still doesnt free off the stuck piston, remove the caliper and give it the full strip down, you should be able to pick up a service kit for the caliper localy, for a few $
Best also to do the same test on the other side at the same time if you havent already done it.
The bottom line is..........dirt or dust clogging around the piston.

It sounds like you might have a seized caliper. That happened to my car after it sat for over a year. If you take it to Midas, they will look at it for free and tell you what's wrong. Just remember, don't just replace a caliper/hose from one side....replace both sides.
Fixed It Thank You
I toar into the car and seen alot of mayhem under there so i went ahead and replaced the lines on both sides and new calipers on both sides, and new performance friction pads on it. the wife even helped me bleed them off. now when i brake it is like a new car..... I really appreciate your guys's help...
Oh one quick question though, when my wife was pumping the brakes the switch broke for the brake lights so now they stay on, i pulled the fuse and they went out, How much are those switches
thanks
