left/ right bank??? Cylinder wall notches?
I just got my block back from the machine shop, the guy there marked the pistons in the box as right bank and left bank. What does that mean? Ive never heard that before. Does it have to do with the way the rods have worn on the crankshaft? Will it still matter since i just had the crank turned? The other thing is towards the bottom of the cylinder there is a small notch taken out of the wall, is this for rod bolt clearance? I was just wondering because i hadnt seen those before.
Thanks, Danny

Yes it matters which way the pistons are hung on the rods: pick up a "left bank" one, hold it such that the notch on the top of the piston (the "front" marking) is toward you, the bearing tangs in the big end of the rod should be towards the right (downward as installed in the motor); a "right bank" one will be assembled the other way, i.e. with the bearing tangs toward the left, which is downward on that side.
No idea about the notch, where around the cyl is it? If it's where the rod passes, it's clearance for the long stroke with the somewhat incorrect rod (typical 383 with stock rod) situation.
