LT1 cam in a 305?

I want to swap in a LT1 cam into my '89 TPI 305, I was wondering if anyone had done this before and can tell me exactly what I have to upgrade to make this switch. One of my friends told me I need new 1.6 roller rockers or that my stock ones will float at higher rpms. Is this true? Also I heard I need to file off some kind of pin on the cam to make it fit right. ? Thanks for any help.

Its been done quite a bit, hop on over to the TPI board and they can be more specific on the swap. I've never heard of having to swap the rockers, but the springs will need to be swapped

I know this much. LT1's have optispark (not a distrubor) so I don't know what guys are doing to their LT1 cams in order to drive their distrubors. Maybe you can add on a distributor gear or something??

LT1 cams have gears on them. There is a pin at the front of the camshaft that will poke through your timing cover if you don't deal with it.

All you need to do is tap the dowel pin in about .300" on the front of the cam. On the LT1 cam, the dowel pin sticks out about .600" and I believe is used to drive the water pump.Tap it in so that it only sticks out .300" +/- .010.

If it won't tap in far enough, then grind it down to the desired length.
