Summer Time Tips?!?!?!
Howdy.Well I've been battling the dissipation of heat (lack thereof) ever since I bought my 84 Z28. It's not that the engine is a lemon and it just overheats. It's like many of our cars.....it gets hot sitting in traffic on a hot summer day!
Down here HOT SUMMER DAY is an extreme! I know it gets hot in a lot of places....however, the ambient temperatures here are exceedingly hot. In fact, several times each summer it gets too hot for airplanes to land or take off! We're talking HOT. OK. We've got that established.
Cheap and easy ways to helps with the heat.
1. A 1/4" fiber carb gasket. Really helps keeping my carb from getting too hot and boiling the gas out of it after I shut it off.
2. Drain all of the Anti-Freeze. Add Water-Wetter or another additive like that with pure water....it works. While you're at it, flush the radiator.
3. Proper tuning of course.
4. Stewart Water Pump. Pumps more water. Pretty simple.
5. Properly working fan or fans. I added a manual switch. I did have trouble with a few switches though, they kept frying even though I was just using it to connect the ground size of the circuit. Then I realized that I was using 112 a/c volt switches instead of automotive 12 volt dc switches.
6. Properly adjust belt!
7. Start heat shield! Starter heat soak can kill a battery in months, easily.
8. Good radiator cap.
9. Properly working thermostat----lower isn't always better.
Anything else? Let's get a good list.
Some subtle oxymorons:
definately confused
suddenly consistent
If you were really confused, you wouldn't be quite sure if you were or not!

Not to be picky, but even if a switch is just connecting the ground side of a circuit, all of the current (amps) still has to go through it. On the other hand, if your switch was just activating a relay (either + or - side), very little current goes through it. In this case, only the relay takes the full current of the device it powers.
To keep a thirdgen cool, be sure to have the air damn (chin spoiler) intact. Also, make sure the fan shroud is intact, radiator flushed, and free of obstructions. Check the hoses, to make sure they aren't about to collapse.

Red/Gold,
Good idea about the relay! I hadn't even thought about it. Although the switch I have now is rated to handle 25 or 30 amps....but I think I'm gonna hook up a relay anyhow.
