What is this engine groan?

My car has developed a groan/whine. It sounds like when my other car (Ford Taurus) needs power steering fluid. However, my fluid level is topped off and consistent. Also, in the Taurus, the groan would change pitches when I turned the wheel. In my Firebird, the groan is a constant pitch when I turn the wheels, but becomes higher in pitch as I accelerate. I guess it's got to be something belt driven. Belt seems tight. Any possibility I need a new power steering pump? This noise is driving me nuts.

Thanks

Could be your rear end, possibly your alternator bearing. Any charging problems or other noises?
