Diagnostics codes (not just 32, but a 53 as well)

Diagnostics codes (not just 32, but a 53 as well)

ok, so, I've got the ever popular EGR code 32... but I've got a code 53 too.. there's 4 codes for 53:

1. high voltage - over 17.1v (probably not it, since my guage works, and it's at about 13v)

2. EGR sensor fault (carburated only) (probably not it, since I don't have a carburator)

3. Distributor signal fault (Cadillac HT4100) (probably not it, since I don't have a Cadillac)

4. VATS alert (5.0 TBI) (I'm thinking it's this one, plus, I have a 5.0 TBI, AND I've been having some trouble with the car starting with one key, so I switched to the spare key, which has been working fine so far... not sure if this is the problem or not yet)

any disagreements so far?

now, with these codes, what's my best bet? could the EGR code be a cracked hose going to the EGR? cause I know I had a few cracked hoses before that I replaced.. but I didn't replace that one.. and, the VATS code, what should I do about that? I'm gonna assume the code only shows up when the VATS keeps the car from starting (ie, no/improper resistor, or in this case, just a f*cked up key, probably) so I may not need to worry about that..

I think I'm getting to the point where I'm rambling (plus it's almost 6am) so, I'm gonna stop... but.. any ideas on what I should check? thanks for any help..

been reading a few other topics about similar problems.. does the EGR sensor fault apply to a TBI on the code 53 too? it just says carburated, so I didn't think it'd apply to me.. I guess this could be the problem too, since the code 32 is present.. I just figured it'd be the VATS since I've had a few problems starting the car recently.. although, the car not starting and the SES light coming on don't seem to have any relativity, except for they both seem to be happening more frequently.. any ideas? I'll probably check the EGR out in a few minutes, since I've got some time to waste..

I had code 53 on my 5.7tpi after changing the plugs. The voltage gauge was reading high though, around 17. Turned out I had moved and loosene the wires on the main terminal on the solenoid when I was ratcheting aroung down there. I took off the nut, put on some dialectric compound and tightened the nut good, voila no more code 53. Loose wires there could affect starting too although it didn't on mine.

good luck

yeah, I read about yours.. but, as I stated up there, I'm sure it's not the voltage..

the voltage could have been high briefly and caused the code. Id check the nut on the solenoid wires, it'll only take a few minutes. At least youd know it wasnt' that.
