Oil Pan Gasket Replacement

I've never replaced one on these cars....Is it pretty much unbolt it, clean it, replace the gasket and throw it back up there, torque it and go?

Only reason I ask is because I did one once on a cavalier and it turned out the engine had to be lifted to do the oil pan.

Every engineer should be a mechanic before becoming and engineer!!!!

You have to jack up the motor and have the crank rotated to the right spot to get it out.

Cut 4 6 inch long sections of a 2x4 before hand. Use them to put inbetwen the motormounts when you jack the engine up to hold it up when you remove the jack, 2 per side. Then..I wanna say the crank has to be at 6'oclock to get the throws out of the way..but I can;t remember that for sure.

Oh yeah..and be sure nothing will crunch on the firewall when you jack it up....like the distributer.

take out the motor mount bolts and put the jack cup under the balancer.

Christ, I though I was a hack!

dude, dont be a hack, dont jack it up on the balancer use wood under the mounts, that is not safe.

Here is the correct way:

1.Remove distributor cap
2.remove motor mount bolts
3.remove exaust manifolds/headers(if nescesarry, on headers it for sure will be.
4.rent an engine hoist....Pep Boys does it for free...just give them 250$$ deposit, and they give you the hoist...then you give the hoist back, and they give you the $$$ back
5. remove 1 intake manifold bolt on each side of the engin, on opposite sides, at the corner, put a longer bolt in there, and a chain link through the bolt.
6.remove carbeurator..if necessary.
7.Jack the engine up..slowly

I was able to do it this way without unbolting the engine from the tranny, I cant remeber, buy you may have to loosen or remove the tranny mount.
Now..as for getting it to seal...good luck
