An engine rebuild should involve stripping down the engine to the bare block, thouroughly cleaning and magnafluxing, and possibly boring it. Reinstalling new main bearings, cam bearings and freeze plugs. It is also necessary to recondition the rods, install new rod bearings, turn the crank (most of the time), and install oversized pistons if necessary. Then the heads should be reworked with new guides, valves ground, and new seals installed. There is no set price or even a ball park figure for cost. Machine shop prices vary too much to even give an estimate. Hope this helps.
