Please read. RS was about to smoke my ***.

What dose a 92 RS with a T5 runs.

I was driving on the highway and he drove by my side at this moment I was on the phone talking to my girl so I didn’t have time to play hide and seek with him. When I finished from the phone I slammed it and went to his left side and I smiled in his face he looked at me and dawn shifted to 2nd I slammed it too my stupid 700-R4 down shifts to 2nd then shifts 3rd. the race was about 10-20 seconds due to traffic, we ended up by me in front of him by 1/2 a car.

Could he be running a 350 under his hood? Or is it a 305 TBI but it's the T5 what's making it fast? Or is it my car that is slow?

it couldve been a 305, nothing sucks worse than a 700R4 that shifts into the wrong gear when racing. its happened to me many times. with his manual trans, he could have shifted right into his powerband, autos dont tend to do this with regularity

I pulled up next to a blue RS one day. He yells out the window.

"Whatcha got?"

"350!, you?"

"305!"

"Wanna run?"

"Sure!"

I nail it at about 40mph. Then he nails it. Almost immediately he is pulling. He put about a length or two on me. We slow back down.

We line up again. I nail it. Same thing happens again. Totally wasted me. We stop at a light.

I say, "Thats not a 305!"

"Yeah, its a carbed ZZ4!"

*Things arent always what they seem I would imagine the guy you ran had some things done.

No way it was stock, could have been TBI with some good mods, cam, head work, gears, exhaust, that would make him pretty fast.

It could have been a 305 TPI, then I see why he won. Your car is an 88 350 with 230hp and he has a 92 305 with 230hp too! Plus if its a 5-speed I see why it kept up with you.

rs's arent tpi they only came with tbi if it was a z28 then tpi

No some Rally Sports came with a 350 and 700r4. Its called a police package.

actually 90-92 they had 4 engine options if I remember right...

350TPI

And only the 350 would get the Z/Iroc badging.

dont think so monkie.. not a 350... police cars are mostly suspension if i am not mistaken. with slightly higher compression(gasket) and a chip. i might be wrong though.

i have never heard of any RS with a tpi engine in it.. unless it was put there as a modification..

No trust me there is some Rally Sports with 350TPIs in them. They are or used to be a police car. There is one that was for sale around hey about a year or two ago that was dark green with red pin stripes and it had that. I don't remember how much it was but I wanted it minus the automatic tranny.

The police package aka RPO B4C is an RS Camaro with an IROC drivetrain. That means 350 TPI motor and 700R4 tranny and 3.xx rear gears. Since the car in question had a T5 transmission, it couldn't have been packing a 350 under the hood unless the tranny was swapped in later. B4C cars also probably got the IROC suspension, since it doesn't make any sense to give a car that kind of power without a suspension that can put it to the ground.

How do you know it was a manual?? Like said it could have been a B4C 350 TPI auto.

My car in a nut shell - all stock

1991 RS
B4C Police package
350 TPI
700R4 Auto - piece of junk in my opion
36mm front sway bar
23mm rear sway bar
254/50/R16
J65 4 wheel disc brakes
3.23 gears

You could get the 305 TPI and a t-5 with the B4C RPO. Though I dought it was a B4C, there are not a lot of them out there. But yes, the B4C cars are Z-28's without all the fancy stuff, just all the go fast stuff and RS badging.

I'd say his car was most likely a L03.

The T5 has a HUGE advantage over the 700r4 from a roll. From a stop the 700r4's not too bad, but forget about racing anyone from a roll. Mine sucked nuts unless you punched it at exactly the right speed.

It was a T5 and it hade T-Tops. Good news I was crossing tonight in town and guess what, I saw the RS in a parking lot and it hade a FOR SALE sticker on the window, his number was on it. I got it and I'll call him tomorrow to invite him to a real race.

I called the guy today. Guess what he had an L98 CORVETTE motor under his hood (91 350 TPI).
I told him I want to meat you he said ok. When we met his friend was there too he had a 91 Z28. I told him I want to have a fair race with you he said If you can beat my friends 91 Z I'll race you because I can waste him easily. (I'll post it in a new topic).

If your running that stock with some mods he could keep up. I think the 305 TBIs came with gearing and um about a mid 15 second 1/4 mile time.

ur prolly 14.6-14.9 depending on cars condition and that guys right, if he got in the power band before you he could definately keep it up. i know about the 700r4s, i had a 88 SC 305 TBI before, i got it to a 15.2 @ 88 mph (2 high of gearing). so im sure he had some stuff done, i had a guy do that to me once. RS body 3" cowl induction hood, he asked if i wanted to run i said sure and i took him only by about a car from a roll of about 40mph. i love surprising people tho, makes ya feel WONDYFUL! :lala:

does a 305tbi have a powerband i would say its something else. it seems like the RS family has the most oddball engine swaps due to the fact that no fast motors came stock in RS cars, i guess that gives them the most motivation to put something faster in as opposed to someone who could just be satisfied with a stock l98. i shouldnt talk, my car no longer sports an LG4. someone around these boards is sporting a 454 with a turbo 400 in a berly, thatd be a sleeper for sure.

The 305 TBI will take alot more abuse than a 305 TPI will though. So they both have their ups and downs.

I mus be pushing close to 180,000 , cant say for sure speed sensoror been gone for somtime now onley leaks a little oil but dosent burn any . an still eats rice for a daily diet. top end still screams. kind wish i had the cash for some of the ideas ive gotten of this board.
