not to **** NE one off, but any car with 5:58 (?) gearing is going to be fast in the 1/4 providing it has high RPM HP. i have a 79' catalina (boat!!) with a posi and a 4.9 (301) and i can run high 17's, and the gear ratio is similar to the 4.9 TAs
the motor runs great, but it has little HP. I often have to 1st when im in 3rd because the Engine is weak. Be honest, i would get more power if i had an inline 6. The 400 and 403 (oldsmobile manufactured) are just **** engines from the big cars like the bonneville and the parisine and catalina with low HP. any V8 third gen (raged to hell or not) should be able to take any late 70's TA
