Hey man, my VW runs mid 13's! I just see it as a challenge to get a 4-cyl to run with the big V8s. So far I have 1800 in engine and heads machine work, and I stripped the whole car down to 1575 pounds.

But, that project is on hold since I bought my Iroc.

this girl at school told me that she thought her cavalier is faster than my car and her reasoning is becuz her car is just "peppier" and my car doesnt look that fast......i just roll my eyes....lol

then my cousin pulled that whole speedometer thing on me.....she's gotta 80 something Lebaron and said her car could beat mine cuz its speedometer says 110 or something like that.....and when i told her i could do over 110 she said that it would only b possible if i were going downhill and the wind were at my back..........

then this kid that has a mach1 mustang said he could run 12's in the 1/4 mile cuz his car can do a top speed of 130 or something like that........i had to explain to him that it doesnt matter what your top speed is.....it matters how fast u get up to in a 1/4 mile that matters

then this other kid said that he was driving his dad's 67 lemans one day in town and did a burnout in all 4 gears and it can also do 160 in the 1/4 mile........this kid tops them all off.....he is the biggest dumba** ER i have ever met!!

friend: "Holy ****! LOOK AT THAT!" as he points towards this camaro smoking his tires off a launch. "So?" says I. "He's smoking his tires off first gear! (litterally smoking them)", as i watch some more.. 1st, some of 2nd and a chirp in 3rd. he street raced this Z22 cavalier that wouldn't shut up about his car. Thank you for a third gen kickin' his *** so he'd go away. So, a bunch more people were saying how fast his car was and how he lit them up to me. I go see the guy, look over his car, he shows me his motor. Looks clean. New crome valve covers, new Air Filter, (k&n of course) and the rest a stock LG4. As I look upon the motor, i wonder if anything's been done to it. I look down at his suspension, it's a basemodle v8 camaro suspension. So he added the ground effects on it. (welded plates on the rocker pannels). rear tires = 215/65R14.... hard, hard.. rubber.
"So," I turn to the guy, "what kind of HP you pushin'?"
"Oh, i don't know... somewhere around 300."
"Really?!" I tell him.
"Yeah, You want to race?"
"I'm always up to the challenge." As i TRY to look cocky on the verge of being nervousness.
He sees my automatic while looking at my car. I pop the hood and my messy engine bay sees the sight of the sun, the moss in the crevasses recoiling at the horrid horrid light (just kidding about the moss part.. i do keep my engine decent). He then asks me what's on top of my engine and i think to myself.. "he dosn't know that, THAT is TPI?".. so i tell him, "It's a Fuel Injected engine.. computers and sensors and ****."
So we go out on a stip of hiway. A couple of my friends fallow, as well as his friends. he does a little smoke show while waiting for the other guys to make off the end of the 1/4. We lign up. I push down on my break and apply ever so gently to the gas to bring my engine to 1650 rpms. I then slowlly look over at him. He hears my engine and revs his up to show that he can do that too. Somebody gets in line on the side of the road so we can both see him. Then, all of a sudden, he brings his arm down and i let go of the break, for i will not need it for the next 15 seconds. I look from my right, where the guy was, to my left to see nothing there. My foot to the ground i look in my rear view mirror to see the camaro smoking the one tire, a look of surprise upon his face. I then smile to myself. Remembering what a corvette had done to me on one of my first races, I switched over to his lane and finished the 1/4 mile on his side of the desolated hiway. I have not heard his voice since, for he is too ashamed to look at me today.

(ok, i got bored and wrote a story.. it's semi-factacious.. i did race a guy who kept on and on about how fast his pegged legged LG4 camaro was, on how he had so much power that he could spin his tires on 3rd gear.. he had 215/65R14's on it too.. but when we raced i had about 5-6 car lenghts on him by the end, and i didn't do the switch lanes thing.. but i soo wished i would of.. people still keep going on and on when they can spin the tires...

nice run... i cant stand even other american cars when they talk sh*t... i saw the funniest thing ever... there is this place that is close to my house called Auto Graphix... it is such a sh*t hole... everyone in my school loves the place.... there is no garage, no parts, no tools, just a store front and magazines.... not to mention a pit bull running around. well one of the owners of this fine establishment....has a old s10 blazer with a 355... i asked him to pop the hood so i could see it... so he does... and hey turns it on.... waiting to hear this loud roar... it sounds like a dam mini van on start up.... and this is the best part... i see an afpr.. now he is running a carburated set up.... so i ask him first how much pressure hes running for the fuel... he gives me a dumb look... so i ask again U have a afpr.... how what did u set the pressure for the fuel?.... he says 55 lbs.... so im guessing that 55psi....is it me or is that a whole hell of a lot?!?!?! i see racing afprs for carbed set ups that go up to 20 psi.... i have never heard of 55psi.... he also says that it runs 13's.... dunno about that maybe high to mid 14s.... but just that whole shop is a dirty hell hole i walked in and just say a busted clear speeker box layin on the floor.... sorry for beeing so long... and for going off track.... aight peace

Buddy of mine has a 86 supra that he talks alot of trash about so after i got my first camaro 92 rs 305 tbi i asked him to race:

Friend: Man just got new tires on my car i can prob go about 140 or so
Me: ok lets go then
Friend: 1/4 mile?
Me: sure, your alwasy talkin about your car lets go
Friend: I don't know man your car has more torque
Me: Oh come on man its only a 305 and my car is heavier that yours should be close
Friend: naw thats ok i don't have the right tires on it for that

I forgot one. I had a guy with a lt1(all stock except cat back) tell me he would beat me cuz i have a single exhaust. I guess the headers, flowmaster and the 3"pipe w/no cat just don't flow enough for me to go fast...lol

a lot of import will pull higher numbers on the slolam then a Z06 would

though in a sustained turn there skidpad numbers are lower

I agree. A Z06 has awsome acceleration, handling, and skidpad numbers, but lighter cars have an advantage on the slolam. It's just easier to toss 2000lbs back and forth than 3200.

I think I have one of the best ones yet. A couple years ago a guy was looking at my 82 and told me he had a turbocharged 4 cyl camaro and he had it up to 160 once. But that's not the best part. He went on to inform me that it was so fast because it was the smaller, high speed body. No ground effects. But according to him it was shorter and narrower for high speed runs. It was funny. I just laughed at him and left. No use arguing with a stupid person, because no matter what you say they will still be stupid.

Today, I had an employee from the local Chevy dealer as me if my car was a 97 or 98.

Guess I won't be going to that dealer for a new car.

You know what's been pissing me off lately? I have a friend that I got into domestic cars. He used to drive an 89 accord that he thought was sooooo fast. After I beat him in my ittie bittie 6 cylinder camaro he decided he wanted one. Now this kid is a total ***** at heart still. I am still trying to get it thru his head that an air filter doesn't add 25 horsepower to a stock engine.... So what does he do? He gets himself a MINT 95 Z28 camaro with a 6 speed and leather. He bought it for only 6000 dollars and it only has 50000 miles on it. He wants to get a body kit, a huge spoiler, and some altezza's. Now this pisses me off! This kid complains about EVERYTHING!!! "My brakes squeak", "My shocks squeak" "I get bad gas mileage" "My alternator is squeaking" (This is after explaining to him what an alternator is) "My interior rattles" Then my personal favorite which makes me want to kill him... "My honda didn't have anything ever go wrong with it" And " My honda's exhaust sounded a bunch louder and better than the camaros does."
Okay first of all the z28 has stock exhaust and IMO it sounds great. And he claims that honda's exhaust with a fart pipe are louder and better sounding than any domestic car. I want to punch him in his jaw sometimes but at least he's learning. Does anyone have a friend like this? Oh and the big misconception that pisses me off is ***** hp math. Air filter 25 hp, CAI 35 hp, muffler 25 hp, header 25 hp all equals 115 hp at the wheels! And another great one that pisses me off is that the rated hp for imports mean at the wheels. For example 1989 honda accord rated at 95 hp. This equals 95 hp at the wheels. A bunch of my friends believe that drivetrain loss is only in rear wheel drive vehicles! I know it's more in rwd but they do lose some in fwd. Dumb misinformed kids!

Okay, this post has gotten so big i cant view it on my home computer and I have to do it in drafting. Anyways, I have posted a few times about "hondaboy" a kid I work with who beleives that all imports are faster than all american cars. He has this civic, that no one is seen, and claims it can eat my trans am alive. I ask to see this car, and it never seems to be around. I flat out told him that not only is my car actually modified, I actually have it, and my motor is 3X the size of his. But get this, he wants to race me for "a G" and give me a 4 second head start. I wont race ANYTHING (bicycle included) for that kind of money, because as I told him, I actually have enough power to break stuff. I would race him for 100, but only in front of his friends at a strip so he can be embarrased as hell. When he told me hed give me a 4 second head start, all I told him was he better run 10's or better or he will get smoked. Fine give me my head start, Ill do a nice smokeshow, let you go, and barrel past you so fast youll swear your car stalled.

I have a friend with a 3000 gt who always used to say he would toast me. I took him for a little "spirited driving" now he swears I have the fastest car in town ( because if it faster than his u kno).

BUT after he puts in his crate engine and twin turbo he will easilly beat me

How about this one I eliminate a guy buy 5+ car lengths from a 20 mph roll and he says "Ahhhhhhhh, I was in second gear"WTF is that.

I had a kid tell me that his car was faster than mine because he had the Police Package Caprice and cops always drive the fastest cars, oh yeah! I said , he says yes how do you think they always catch the guys on in pursuit on COPS.

I know a lot of imports handle well and some pull better numbers than domestics, but I was lashing out at all the ^$@@*#*$*^&$@^#(*#$@* that insist no American car can handle, especially if it has a v-8 in it. Mother f*ckers. I HATE those sumbitches.

Budy of mine just got a 99 taurus. Its the better of the line (i guess) DOHC and such, completely stock.hetalksabout itas if it was a ferrari. "I got it up to 120 and still hd plenty of power."

I just walked away. This kid doesn't know about cars. He claims that an engine has a factory horspower limit.

Even with 50 grand into the civic engine the Viper must have been running on 3 cylinders.

I hate, "Trans ams are faster than z28's" For some reason kids think that since they look better (4th gens) they are faster! Oh and this kid at my work claims that if you drop a prelude engine in a civic you will run low 12s! I tried to explain to him that a civic si with 160 hp runs low 15's at best stock. How can 35 hp drop you 3 seconds in the quarter?! Stupid ***** ideas....

I have a cousin who is a big NASCAR fan, but not mechanically inclined:
He thinks his '98 MonteCarlo has a V8 and rear wheel drive. I don't have the heart to lay the smack-down on him cause he's 17 and can't find his dipstick with a map and a flashlight.

We raced once (I didn't want to) and I spanked him. He says he'll be faster once he gets his NASCAR gears in it. I'm waiting to see the results of this particluar modification.

mid I think they can run high 15 low 16's

though putting a GSR or newer si motor into a CRX or a bubbleback civic (older civic hatch) and you have one potent car for street racing. they cal pull low 14 high 13 all motor but they only weigh about 1900-2100lbs

Saw the civic vs viper video and I couldn't even tell who won but who knows if the viper was even trying to win? The one I have heard many times over the years is that a small block winds up faster than a big block and therefore is quicker off the line and the big block car will take longer to get going but then will have more top end. There are too many variables to make this statement but the block size is definetly not much of a factor.

It's the size of the crank. If you have a long crank and short rods it will wind up slower than a short crank with long rods. That is why people de-stroke 350s to 327s, the 327s make power up to 7000 rpm, I think. Can somebody post a link to the Viper vs. Civic It's bee a while since I've seen it.

Doesn't matter how fast the engine will wind up, the car ain't leaving hard unless the power is there.

but thats only because I have a built chevy 350 out of an 92 thirdgen. but watch out for those 455s a built one will have you boys lookin your on bikes. dont bash me because I love 3 thir gens. :hail: but love the sleeper look of my rusted out olds. the 350 beats the stock 307 .

Theres this kid a year behind me in school and mommy and daddy were buying him a z28 from his uncle. So first he tells me its a 98 but his uncle took out the engine and put in an LT1 so it had more power. I was like why the heck would he would do that. Then when he finally got the car, he said it was a 93 but it had an LS1. I'm thinkin ok, that makes a little more sense, but not much. When we popped the hood there was definitely an LT1 in there. Then he trys to tell me it has headers, but I only saw stock manifolds. A while later then, he told me it has a Corvette chip in it so now it has Corvette performance. Needless to say, after totaling this car, he went and bought like a 94 Civic and went rice with the usual header, catback, cold air intake, and some other stuff, none of which will add any serious power. Yet he claims he rips up everything on the street such as 5.0 stangs so I better watch out.

Sounds to me like he couldn't handle the "Corvette performance heh" and needed to get something a bit closer to his ability.

You should be able to tell if he has an LS1 in his forthgen just by the front of the car. The old LT1 fronts had square headlights and the hood was VERY aerodynamic looking. In order for someone to drop an LS1 in an old LT1 fourth gen you have to get the newer circle light front end. If he doesn't have that front end, he doesn't have an LS1. Why do you think GM changed the front end for the Trans am and Camaro in 1998? They had clearance problems with the LS1. It sit's higher than the LT1.

Seems like to me if someone wanted to put an LS1 in an LT1 car they wouldn't encounter any clearnce problems- I though the LS1 was smaller......?

I thought they just changed the front ends in 98 for a refreshining....
