Ask around on camaroz28.com. There are a few people that have done the swap. The Lt1 front ends swoop down too low for the LS1's. Though the LS1 might be a whee bit smaller, it sits a little higher and the hood on an LT1 car will hit it. You can fit an LS1 in there. You just can't close the hood. Unless he has a huge cowl hood, the LS1 isn't fitting in the Lt1's. I think the whole refreshing idea gm was brought on by the new engine they were going to drop in the bay.

Man I HATE people like that. They're is this guy I know w/ an older LT1 4th gen that his parents bought him, he always talks $hit about any car older than his. He thinks that because it's newer his car will always be superior to any car older than him. He is in for a rude awakening if he ever gets the ***** to actually race.

yup

Yep, he always throws the one at me about how because our cars are older the technology wasnt as advancedd and now v6's waste our cars, and modern v8's such as his are even more of a threat to our race of birds and maros...
and he says how since our cars are old, that we lost compression and our cars are not even as fast as they were before, and that the before wasnt fast so now Im just a turtle in his book.......
so his main thing to top off his whole attitude that he says to me all the time.,. "when are you gonna get a real car like a newer one"

I understand he has some points.. but my problem with it is, he acts like our cars are hopeless.... thats a bunch of crap.. I can make my car pass him by 12 car lenghts depending on what mods I do to it.......

The problem with people like them is that they are hopeless. They lack the ability to comprehend the potential tht can be unleashed by mods, and they lack the desire to find out about them or perform the mods. These are the people that think I'm crazy for spending all this money on my "old POS". They don't understand that unless I come up with 100 grand or so, it's not possible to buy the kind of car I want. I have to build it. If you need to hear a story to cheer you up, here's one for ya:

My friend runs a performance shop in which about 95% of his customers are 3rd and 4th gen f-bodies, predominantly 4th gens though. One of his cars is a stripped down 88 TransAm (called "The Red One")which he uses to race in SCCA Solo II autocrossing. He also has a heavily modified 4th gen formy (called "The Silver One") that he used to race Solo II.
About a year ago, he was still racing the silver one he met a newer Firehawk owner. The guy was pretty much a jerk, but since my friend was driving a 4th gen at the time, he was relatively polite although he took every chance he could to remind my friend of the fact he owns a firehawk.
Soon after that my friend started racing the red one. It has kind of faded paint and the interior isn't much to look at, but the engine and the rest of the drivetrain are impeccable since it was all new. The first few races were mildy successful, but there were the little kinks any new and untested car had. A few things reared their ugly heads and kept the TA from running to it's full potential. Eventually, it led to a complete rebuild, an overnight thrash to get the car back together, and a short 40 minute tuning session before catching a few hours of sleep and then heading to the race early the next morning.
When they arrived, they drove the TA off of the trailer and started preparing it for the race. Sure enough Mr. I Have a Firehawk and am Better Than Everyone walks by and sneers at my friend's car. My friend recognizes him and since he's a nice guy says "Hi". The jerk just gave him a dirty looked, gave the TA an even worse and more disdainful look and walks of without saying a word. My friend just shrugged it off and went back to his preparations. Turns out they were racing in the same class.
As the day went on, the TA was runnning stronger and stronger. All the bugs had been worked out and the tuning seemed right on the money. After the racing was done, he was all smiles. He went over to check the race results and sees that he had placed 3rd. Not too shabby considering that there were about 15-20 cars in that class. He started to check the rest of the results and lo and behold, there's Mr. Firehawk down in 5th or 6th place and about 3 or 4 seconds slower On his way back to the car one of the guys stopped him to congratulate him on how he'd done. My friend was wearinga huge grin and said this:
"Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with how I did, but I'm just happy I beat that F*CKER with the firehawk." He turned his head to the side and sees Mr. Firehawk fuming about 5 feet away. He obviously had heard the comment. My friend just nodded his head at him, grinned, and walked away.

Sorry baout the long story, but thought you guys might enjoy it. The old saying says never judge a book by it's cover, and nothing is truer than that when it comes to car racing.

Story

Thanks for the story.. that made for some good reading..

I hate arrogant jerks.. and most of the time 4th gen owners are. I love 4th gens.. But beecause of those people.. it makes me not want one. it makes me want to just make my ol 3rd gen whoop their osses.

"Your camaro is stock- my '91 new yorker has a k&n, and the subs in the back give me weight for traction. My car can kill yours." me: let's go, i'll let you start before i step on the gas. I commence to winning, let off at 50 in a 35. He keeps going- claims he won. I could see his whole car in my rearview mirror before i let off.

I guess you meant to type GMC , because Chevy trucks are GM trucks. GMC trucks are GM trucks too. You're right about GMC and Chevy trucks being the same vehicle with the GMC having different badges, being a little bit more luxurious, and costing more.

My favorite (or least favorite) misconception is when people keep thinking my cars are V6's. The RS definately has a V8 rumble and the trans am aside from the fact it says "TRANS AM" on it has a good rumble too, but people for some reason think they are 6's.

Another one is stupid people that will see my RS and say "NICE TRANS AM" and when I'm in my trans am they say "NICE CAMARO"

Two kids at my school were talking

A: What kind of car do you have
B: A (something) with a 3.4L V-6, it's pretty fast but I want to make it faster
A: You should put a K&N Filter in it, that'll make it act like (thinks for a second) 3.8L

I didn't even bother saying anything

A New sales person at a Chevy dealership tried convincing my friend that a new Trans Am had "around 500 horsepower"

i was talking to my friend (WHO WORKS IN A GARAGE) about my trans am a while ago.
me- as long as i have to buy a new crank, rods, and pistons for my 350, i might make it a 383.
him- is it a short or a long block?
me-what???
him- you need a longblock 350 to bore it out to a 383. it's longer than a normal 350 so there's enough room to bore the cylinders out.

my mom went for the speedo thing too. when i got my camaro, she looked at the speedo and said oh good, that means it only goes 85 right?

the auto thing, i say eww to that too, but not because they're slow, but because they are boring like camaro6spd said

the thing that bugs me the most when my gf says it is "that car is old, it's a pos" there's a guy in town that has an old trans am. i think it's a 69 with a 400? in it. it's completely restored, quite honestly one of the most beautiful cars i've ever seen in person. when i showed it to her, her reaction was "eww it's old"

OK heres my best. I am sure that everyone has had contact with the guy who has do it all, seen it all, been all, but has nothing to show for it All?

The story.

Me and my buds were talking at work one day about building engines, and the F#ck stick walks up and starts spewing about his old S-10 the he stuffed a 350 into. While this is believeable he had to go on. Next was how he swaped in a Corvette rear end. I asked what year, he replied the new ones. I asked how he made it fit, He said that a local shop chopped the tube to mke it the proper length, this is where the get waved, but we let him continue. After that he talked about blowing tranny after tranny. Then came the nitrous install. Since I was intrested I asked how he did it. OK, hold on to your seats.......He replied, I just plumbed it into the gas line on the carb. I had to ask him to show me that since that was pretty cool, how he got the liquid fuel and the nitro vapors to mix in the float bowl, he then stammered that a local shop put it in and that was how the instructions showed it. To end it all off, we all asked to see the truck, and got the typical "I sold to some guy, and he burned rubber all they way down the street"

i used to know a guy like that. He claimed he had a turbo on his s10. When I aked to see it he pointed at the airbox. He took me for I ride in the country and it was slow as *****. He said, "I'm going easy on it, because it doesn't have race gas in it." Later, almost a year after he sold the truck, he claimes he had nos. This guy is a compulsive lying moron. He also claims he has a brand new vette with a factory installed 454 , but he keeps it in storage because he can't afford the insurance. if that's any indication of how much of a lier he is.

Must be something about s-10's. My freind built 1 a couple years back. He had a machine shop build an engine and match a converter for it. We were at a party so I say take me for a spin. It smoked the tires for blocks but it didn't pull worth a damn. So he sells this truck to another guy. The guy is pretty cool but doesn't know his *** from his elbow. He's talkin about how it is. I was in it it wasn't quick. So he gets this thing to the track and pulls off a bunch of 15's. He says this thing is smoking the tires half the track and it should be good for 11's. I know it had a traction problem because it had an open rear with stock leafs in it. The motor was strong maybe 250 - 275 horse. The guy says he goes back to the track with a new rear with better gears. He pulls maybe low 15's or high 14's at best with mph around 90. He still talking about his traction problem holding him back and how he easily has 400+ horse. I saw his timeslips and his 60's were around 2.0. not great but not the major half track burnout he was talking about. The guy who never turned a wrench stuck to his guns and claims he had 400+ and could do 11's if he could only hook-up. Nothing you tell the guy about trap speed, 60 ft times or comparing another cars performance would straighten him out.

Hopeless!

These are the kind of people you race for money. Just tell em you have a 145 hp LG4 and it runs 16s. They will be chompin at the bit to race for money. Nice thing about a small block is that you could be running a hot 400, but you could tell people it's a mild 327 and 99% of the people would believe you. I don't know how to tell the difference between small blocks other than a few minor things here and there, and there's no way any of these idiots would either.

gotta love the speedo one. anyway i got a friend i was just talking to on messenger and he told me his parents just bought him a 95 integra with DOHC. so i just say cool. then he said it was pretty fast. i asked if it was stock and of course it was.but i what he thought it would do in the quarter. scince he knows very little about cars im not laughing to hard yet. but he tells me it will run a mid 13 easy and after header, chip, exahast, and 18s it will run mid 12s cake maybee low 12. so then i say so u think it will beat a stock 02 ls1 camaro and he said no way and that he might be able to not get raped after the mods.lmao. just had to share. but then my other friend with the 92 prelude base model that go from 60 to 120 in about 4 seconds dont even get me started. and yes the prelude is completely stock. but for all my idoit friends i have a few with brains like one has a 70 challenger with a 340 in it that he is restoring. and another wiht a 66 chevy II with a 400

The one that pisses me off. Right after beating a riced up V6 Mustang that was harassing me the kid did a ***** flyby with his snotty girlfriend hanging out the window giving us the finger. At the next light she says "What does 5.0 mean? Is that the size of your *****?"

Correct response" In that case, your boyfriend only got 1.2 left to go"

Also my friend owns a sunfire"my car is registered for 220km/h and dad says it could do it"
me;"thats a pill of bull"
him;" yeah i know, i 'd say it could do about 260"

Also here's another one. friend" i think i might get a fairly new mustang for high school"

me" V8 or 6?"
him"3.8 liter, a V8 would be too much, what does liters mean anyway?"
me"guess..."
him"how big the gas tank is??"
me"yeah thats right (sarcasim) and with gas 50c a liter, you can fill it up for less than two bucks "
him"sweet, so does that mean moms 2.0 liter escort has a gast tank the size of a milk carton?"
me"obviously(sarcasim)"

Yup, the speedometer 1 is really something. Alot really think the speedometer actually means that is how fast it can go no matter what, its 1 of the best.
