Raced my old Firebird....
Last year i sold my '87 Firebird Formula (LG4/T5) to a friend of mine so i could buy my GTA. Well anyway, we were gonna hang out sunday night and he's been telling me about the mods he's done to it (exhaust, intake, etc) and how it fast it was now. Note i drove this car for almost 5 years and it was SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW. My GTA has an L98/700r4 combo, 3.27 posi, full exhaust (3" pipes and hooker supercomp headers), msd, etc.... So i'm outside his house waiting in my GTA, he comes out, hops in the firebird and we go off. we come to a red light on the parkway which is real straight and flat and there's nothing out there at 11 o'clock. I didn't know he wanted to go until the light turns green and i hear tires screach his car rushing out in front of me. I couldn't let this happen so i pedal it a little (these L98 cars are burn-out machines) and then gave it gas and i caught up real fast. I passed him at 25 mph and never I never looked back. I had big healthy number of lengths on him buy 80 mph (i was manual shifting at 5k) before i let off. He comes up to me when we stop and he's like "damn, now i know why you wanted to get rid of this thing".

I can relate. In kind of an opposite way though. I saw my old 77 Camaro at the track last friday. Hadn't seen it in 2 years.
It's a 305-2bbl w/2.56s. The kid added dual exhaust and headers and it ran a 17.1- and I'm like #@$@$! It's only 0.1 slower then my 88 IROC-
305 TBI auto/2.73s. (times are at 3500ft!)
Guess I should kept it instaed of buying my crappy IROC

with a bad launch (flooring it) i get 2.4 60fts and low 14 sec timeslips. with the proper launch i get 1.94 60fts and mid 13 sec timeslips. ive never measured a burnout mark in the Vette mostly because i never do burnouts (except at the track)
