How to tell if It's a V6

I've been noticing a trend with people who have phony muscle cars(sorry 2.8 guys) that when you don't have power, you have to have lots of pointless goodies, a.ka gaystang body kits
These pretty much apply to V6 4th gens and V6 mustangs(4.6 body style). New Mustangs are also sneaky in that they look almost exactly the same up front, they just have single exhaust and don't have "GT" on the bumper. These are my favorite targets. It's fun to give em ****** power
1. Extremely oversized Chrome rimz(anything by lexani), V8 guys know you need sidewall for traction
2. Mexican Connection- any gold plating, wire wheels, curb feelers, excessive chrome accents
3. *****- pointless giant stickers, body kits(I never see z-28's with giant high rise spoilers, insane ground effects. few V8 owners put such ugly crap all over their car ( this is not foolproof though, there is no accounting for bad taste)
4. Absurdly low ride height , V8 owners know that it would be bad to lower their car to 1 cm off the ground
5. Color changing paint- on the whole you should be suspicious of people who have 5 thousand dollar color changing ghost flames, any sparkle flake paint is also possible V6 material
This system is in no way complete or fullproof. I'm not hating on all V6 owners, the insurance differance is very inticing, it just seem like alot of V6 owners in my area have "honda syndrome" making up for displacement with pointless junk. Anything 3rd gen is still cool, Has anybody built the "Iron Duke"?

i actually am sick of the v6 mustang problem in my city too. how is your 305 being a 14 second car relevant to this conversation? he is complaining that the low end non v8 newer muscle cars are giving the real new v8 muscle cars a bad rap and is sick of seeing it.

You must be careful of roush mustangs if you look at the bumper, it looks like a v-6 stang from the back with the exception of the spoiler. You might run up onto something you dont wanna play with

Also with the V6 Stangs they can be quick. There is a guy around where I live that has a supercharger on his and he can smoke new GTs and gets the insurance cost of a V6. So watch out because not all are fake some might bite ya

im tired of all the v6 camaros/firebirds too. its mainly the 4th gen ones. everyone has one. its a rarity to see a frickin z28 or a t/a much less a ss or ws6. i guess becuase they are cheaper everyone bought a v6. they still look good but i would be embarassed to drive one. hell im embarassed to drive my 305 becuase its not a 350. haha

I know what you mean about the v6 cars. I saw a really nice looking newer camaro(97 up) at a car show. I walked by not paying attention to what it was. When the guy poped the hood, I was expecting to see a LS1 engine, but it was a crappy v6. I just thought to myself, "why the hell would he bring that to a car show, and why the hell didn't he leave the hood shut.

Also, I have seen a few v8 mustangs with color change paint, and no v6's with it.

I think the focus is on V6 stangs here... I kinda laugh when I see em... they're too slow to be a respectable V6... unlike 4th gen V6 Fbodys which can at least run in the 15's stock... I rarely see a V8 stang here, most of them are V6s with a fart pipe, racing stripes and japanese letters (WTF?)...

It's a damn shame, that's all I have to say.

Must've seen it over by Prince road. South side people can't afford the paint job and anyone north of Prince road has better taste than that.

305 Z28 you are such a fool. I've seen plenty of Cobras with the Mystic paint job. you can mess with them I won't when I hear the borla exhaust and see he cobra badges. Most of the people i know with a v6 know is a v6 and don't add a body kit or anything to it. They admit its slow and laugh. Goto the v6 board and you'll meet some of the coolest guys around. Look at they're cars and mine. they look all sock exhaust for maybe some 16's instead of 15's but no big wings or anything. I see more TA's and Z28's with huge *** wings then I see v6's. I hope you can back up your 305. I've seen plenty of v6 camaros with the 3.8 and a charger looking all stock and they will spank you. You comment on V6 cars not only offends us but its a foolish comment anywayz.

You DO realize that the 305 is a v8 right? Might want to double check that, better go count your spark plug wires. Stock V6 stanks are POSs and are the domestic ricers vehicle of choice. I've seen more V6 stangs with high rise double decker spoilers etc than Focus's or Cavaliers. Whoever disagrees obviously needs to actually look under the hood of the "Domestic Rice" they see. V6 Stang land. Yes, v6s can be fast, yes there are "fast" ricers but you guys got to get your head out of your *** and take a look around. His statements do have some validity in the real world. Why hasn't this been locked yet anyway?

I wouldn't call out any new V6 Mustangs (99-02) if I were some of the 305 owners on this site. A new V6 bone stock can run mid to low 15s. A guy at our local Mustnag racing group ran a bone stock V6 5-speed to a 15.3. And where I race cars are usually a little slower than at a well prepped sea level track.

All I am saying is that with some minor bolt-ons the new V6 Mustangs will keep up with most 305s.

In general, and in Jest

I was being VERY general here. The color change paint is very sneaky. But on the whole, the only ones I have seen have been V6's. Who has 8 grand for some flames anyway? I'd buy a used Ls1 with the T-56 6 speed for that. I'm NOT hating on V6 third gens, I'd rather have a v6 third gen than no third gen at all. I know there is always exceptions, some dude who has a high 12 second dodge colt wagon, ( I heard about on SRO online). I just hate seeing good cars get butchered. Why would you put Japanese Kanji on a Camaro? Why? I've seen it done, rice has no bounderies. The moral of the story was, I just made those up for some laughs and some feedback. Holy crap! I am very hubled by some of the rides on this site, I need some stock options.

the 80's 305 isnt really the best motor to be comparing the newest v6 motors to, they make about the same horsepower if not more than some LG4's and so fourth. However, this is not about that, it is about the fact that the V6 mustang and camaro crowd are making many of their cars hideous. sure there are some v8's doin the same, but seriously. around my town, there are very few v8 (z's, ss's, gt's etc...) and all the v6'ers have the cheap wal mart wheels, enormous wings, altezza lights, neon washer nozzles and license plate frames, and japanese writing across the wind shield and so fourth. it is seriously disgusting, and anyone who thinks this is a post solely picking on the v6 motor its not. i just wish that there was no domestic rice as it gives real cars a bad reputation.

Last year day 3 owning my car, before I got it registered. I take my sister out to my car to show it off:

Me: check this out
My sister: ok
(start the engine)
My sister: It sounds like a boat!
Me: Yeah, it does doesn't it?

true, can't argue that!

but my exhaust doesn't sound that bad, can't really tell its a V6, but doesn't quite had that V8 rumble..its a mutant lol but the turbo whine sure makes up for it

even a v6 with a cut out sounds almost like a v8. but its not the same. an inline engine sounds like ball sack. a turbo v6 with a blow off valve sounds badass when its shifting through the gears. then again a turbo v8 would sound better. hehe

The nicest sounding V6s are the turbo GNs running 10s, with a cut-out spooling it up on the line. It sounds so badass. And when they go flying by you, that whoooosh is awesome, and usually you see there time on the board!!!

"the same up front, they just have single exhaust and don't have "GT" on the bumper."

I would hope people really don't go by this, my car still reads 2.8 multi port injected on the back bumper, and the stock muffler is still on the back of the car, with a single outlet. it just hides my dual exhaust. and by looking at my car other than the hood scoop you'd swear it still was a v-6 car. just goes to show you looks can be deciving. Just for your reference i can tell you the basics of his setup if its any help to you:
67 Nova, its pretty light, no heat/air conditioning but full interior.
327 w/ 10:1 compression, edelbrock performer rpm heads that have had very little work done to them, a victor jr intake, a holley 650 double pumper, hooker super comp. headers w/ 40 series flowmaster mufflers, msd distributor and MSD 6 box, th350 w/ 3000 stall.

i would say with traction you should be around 12.5's with your compression and heads. out of curiosity howd you run your dual exhaust?

I had a friend build me a custom tranny cross member, that has notches in it so I could put duals on it. It can fit 3" exhaust under it but I went with 2.5"'s so I had a little extra ground clearance. He also did all my exhaust work so every thing fits like a glove.
