what will it take?

yesterday on the sprain going northbound on the way to work i got passed at around 85 moph by a civic si .it was one of those blue 2001 models. after he passed me i downshifted and caught him . we went back and forth a bit but he was able to pull on me if i was in 5th. my tranny is messed up so it takes me a while to downshift but once i do i catch up after a while tho. also , theres this guy at my job that has a 97 gsr that i used to walk away from im my 85 300zxt. i really dont want to run him cause i think ill lose. what i goot do to walk on these guys?

i have an 86 trans am with an lg4. its got the really tall gears adn non posi. so far ive only got an open element and a flowmaster muffler. will headers make that much of a difference? and also , what kinda springs is everyone runninf for better handling. ive got kyb shocks in there now. any suggestions? id like to drop it like an inch or so.

lg4 exhaust manifolds suck so definitely get headers. also, if it were me i would get a performer intake manifold and a performer carb if you dont have to pass emmissions. also, the s/r torquer 305 heads would be a nice addition as well as 3.73's.

i took the egr off of my car and it passed emmsions. Not by much. If you get a Holley or edelbrock carb, you can tune them to pass the sniffer test.

Get headers. Don't waste money on the intake/carb. Stock Q-Jets are very effective when tuned right.
A cam swap would help out a lot, unless you have a lot of miles then it may not be the best idea.

the carb is arguable although i was saying this based on the fact that a 16 year old carb is probably not in the best shape. however, the intake would be a definate improvement over the stocker.

The headers should go for sure the stock ones really suck also the y-pipe. You can also try one of those ram air setups that might help a little. A new cam will give a big improvement.

Hey Mark, why would the cam not be a good idea with a lot of miles? Should i not have replaced my stock cam? I can't imagine the terrible times i would have without my aftermarket one.
