My friend was telling me about how SVT shoe-horned a Lightning engine into a ranger...and they worked it up to 420 HP/480 ft-lbs torque. However, the Syclone run's 13.5's and beat a testarossa in a best-of-3 drag match. Who do you think would win?

I would put my money on the Syclone. One of the biggest problem with trucks is traction. With all the weight at the front its really hard to get the rear tires to hook. The Ranger definately has the power (hp and tq) advantage but is it really an advantage? Unless the Ranger driver is really good he'll be spinning tires all day long. The Syclone has AWD for a better launch, not as much torque off the bat so it will probably hook better (AWD really help too! hehe), and then boost on the top end for that push.

yeah i was hoping that they wouldnt be that stupid to put a huge motor in a small truck and not take care of the traction problems. but if they didnt do that,, then yeah maybe the syclone

Man that would be one awesome Ranger But since SVT is putting the motor in the truck I am sure they are dealing with the traction problems. I doubt that SVT would just shove a Lightning engine in a Ranger and keep the rest of the truck stock. I don't think the Cyclone has much hope against this Ranger.

The Ranger would probably win. But thats a one off truck vs a production truck. Work that Syclone over a little bit and the Ranger don't have a chance.

Since we're on the topic of boosted trucks that few of us can afford, and none of us will probibly ever own: lingenfelter's awd tt427gmc would rape both of those turds.

To answer your question, I'd put my money on the ranger

I would say the ranger, if it existed. Unless some guy did this in his own backyard I'm pretty sure this truck does not exist. The closest I can think of is the new Thunderbolt Ranger coming out this year that is modded by SLP. Thats right SLP. And if it turns out to be that truck then it only has 220hp. Basically its a 4.0 with some body mods, exhaust, cold air intake, and rims.

I work for a ford dealership so I know this truck isnt from SVT.

I bet you'll see a load of bricks or something in the back of that truck. No way he'll hook up without a full load back there. Those trucks are light as hell, and with an engine like that I could see them running 11s with traction. I'd definitely put my money on the ranger if it is running well.

I've seen a lot of stock Syclones run 13.5 at 100mph. Its not hard for one to run mid-low 12's with just bolt-ons. The trick with the Syclone is the AWD and the mid-range torque (like a GN). So when you see one run 12.5, it only puts 106-108mph on the board, but it gets there very quickly, similar with the GN. So you end up with a 350hp truck that runs 12.5 and has 450lbs of torque (or more) with excellent traction.

Race goes to the Syclone, unless it is dead stock (13.5).

Rangers and S10 pickups have notoriously bad traction, not only from the light weight, but also from the fact that coil springs are a PITA (in a car a tad better) to hook up without add-ons.

Have you ever seen the physical size of a SOHC 5.4? It's larger than a 460!

NO WAY IN HELL WILL IT FIT INTO A RANGER!!!

Maybe in the bed?

With enough money you can fit any motor in anything you want. Yep , it's possible.

They are putting one in a Mustang. It needs a large hood, but it fits. I realize the Mustang has a bigger engine compartment, but with a little bit of cutting and welding it would fit. And a Lightning motor in a Ranger would be awesome, especially if it looked stock.

If the Ranger hooks up decently and the Syclone is stock I'll have to put my money on the Ranger. But I would love to see it if it really exists. By the way what year is the Ranger because it makes a difference in weight, which equals traction.
