I beat a 99 Vette twice!!!
Okay it's not thirdgen related or an Fbody, but I beat a 1999 Corvette twice at the track. Out of our 4 match ups, heres is how they went!

So are you happy about beating the Vette or are you happy about beating the bad driver? Reminds me of that thread I saw on one of the Vette boards where the guy called out a turbocharged '00 civic si on the boards and when they raced he was a crappy driver and he lost. Sucks to be him hahahahha

Jesus, not to take anything away from you man but I've driven two C5's on several different occasions and don't see how you could get one to make a 17 sec pass. Was he re-lighting somthing he was smoking between shifts?

Geez, he must have been a horrible driver. Anyways, you beat him so good for you.
Anyone know why on the new 6spd ones that, it seems when you floor it in 1st and go to shift into 2nd it won't let you, you have to shift into 4th?

Those Vette times are absolutely terrible, never heard of one run so bad. I have a friend with a 99 Auto and we G teched it at 13.5 at 105, beating a 14.1 car by about 3-4 car lengths. The stick cars are at least 2 or 3 tenths faster with a half-*** driver.
That guy is a Loo Za Her (my Ace Ventura immitation)
That guy is a Loo Za Her (my Ace Ventura immitation)
It was his first time at the track, so he had no clue what he was doing. On the 17.9 he put it in 5th gear, and claimed to be seeing smoke for a while on all his runs (he smoked his clutch). It felt good on the first run to beat him, because I was expecting to see those 4 round tail lights any second, but I saw him in my center rear view mirror. Only on one run did he go flying by me!
My consistency payed off, and I got a second place trophy for the bracket racing. In the last round I ran a 14.459 on a 14.45 dial, but I fell asleep on the tree with a low .6xx! Bracket racing is fun but there is nothing like heads-up racing on a pro tree!
Yhis post was mainly to show you that when you guys see a Mustang at the track, and he runs a 14.6, and you guys automatically say the new stangs are 14.6 cars, remember, according to me the only stock LS1 Vette I have seen has gone 13.8!!!

The skip shift is only suppose to kick in when using a small amount of throttle(fuel economy). At WOT it should allow you to shift through all the gears.

here is a crappy driver story
well at the local NASCAR short track they do whats called Wacky weds.
you can line up your car with some one else and run the track
high line and low line are seperated buy cones
well two guys square off one in a 02 Saileen and another in a 02 SS well the guy in the SS came off of turn two ahead of the mustang and floored it, went into turn 3 wrong went wiggly and crunched up the front end on a barrier. and to top it all off the car had temp tags on it!!!!!!

I've never driven a car with the T56 myself so Im not really sure but I heard the same thing ATOmonkey said. If you're not flooring it, the tranny will shift from 1st to 4th to save gas. But if its under WOT it should shift normally. I'd say if anything a performance chip upgrade should do the trick? Maybe check with the guys @ www.ls1.com
My friends with 6-speeds say that they are harder to shift than a 5-speed. because the shifter is more compact and it is easier to miss a gear. None of them have mentioned the skip shift, but I have heard of it.
One of my friends has a 1990 LX 5.0 with a 5-speed and a 2000 SS with a 6-speed, the SS is so much harder to shift and he optioned it with the hurst shifter. He has the Pro 5.0 on his Mustang.

All the 6-speed cars I have driven would only do the skip shift thing at light throttle. If you get in the gas a little or let it rev up to about 3 grand the skip shift light would turn off and it would let you shift directly to 2nd. I've never had one try the skip shift thing at WOT or anywhere near WOT. There might be somthing wrong if it is doing that and when it does it at light throttle if you don't want to give it more gas or let it rev out a little just let the shifter go to the middle of the nuetral gate then you can pull it down to second.
skip shift
2000 camaro is same thing...cags...light throttle will force you to go to 4th....you get down on it no problem..but still a pain in the ***...quick fix is purchase a skip shift eliminator..about 30 bucks

skip shift (aka CAGS) engauges under 'normal' driving circumstances, GM put it there for emissions and economy purposes... the only thing you have to do to eliminate it is unplug its plug on the solenoid (3rd solenoid to the front on the drivers side on the tranny) and if you dont want the computer to spit a code (who cares) just put a resister in place on the plug with the same resistance as the coil on the solenoid.

What did you do to your car? There's no way you should have beat an LS1 Vette. You obviously went up against a crappy driver. I guarantee you would not beat me....
I've got a 2001 Vette...pushing close to 430 HP, and might go the supercharger route soon...

0–60 mph, Man. Trans. (sec.) 4.6 (manual), 4.9 (auto)
1/4-mile manual (sec./mph) 13.22 / 109 mph
These are the numbers for a stock LS1 Vette...yet you say your best time is 14.something....opposing driver sucks...you need more power before you get a big head and go Vette hunting...

Yeah I don't think there's any doubt that the driver sucked.. seing as how a stock Dodge Neon could've beaten the Vette...
Obviousely you guys came on here and made assumptions without reading anything I wrote. I said many times that he was a bad driver. I don't claim to be able to beat Vettes, I know my car would get eaten alive, but out of 4 races I won 2 heads-up and he one 2 heads-up! I am also putting a stick in my car in a few weeks, and after the tranny that 14.1 should be a 13.8 or better!!! Read before you go calling me out against your 430hp Vette, I am only 17 and I don't have the funds to have 430hp!!!

Just to clarify, my post (about the Neon) wasn't intended to offend, only restate what you said about the driver sucking.

alls i have to say is wow. that guy must have done everything wrong to get those times. ive NEVER seen a LS1 trap at those numbers. typically theyre in the 110+mph range. he didnt even break 100 once. dont you think its a bit much to call yourself a Vette killer? with a sig like that, no wonder you have 430hp Vettes calling you out. its like saying "all imports are slow".

I'm only 26, so age has nothing to do with it. I'm not sure if a manual will get you 3 tenths better or not, but definetly a much better upgrade. I am not calling you out, cause it wouldn't even be worth the gas to do that.
Your on the right track...but you have some more work to do before you become a Vette killer. Especially with the LS1 and LS6 engines. You might want to save your pennies and go the supercharger route. Don't go NOS, I hate the juice...I see it as a cheater button. "Hey I can't beat a guy with a motor I warmed up, so let me hit a button and double my horsepower." Especially with the Rice Boys, they know they couldn't beat anybody without it.

The Vette killer part is a JOKE!!! get it funny!!! I run 14s, I will never be able to beat a well driven Vette I know that. And the difference between 26 and 17 is a big difference what were you able to buy and afford at 17. I am not saying it was crap but it was no 400+ hp Vette!
I am building my car to run in a class called Factory Stock. I can only run a cobra intake, GT-40 Iron heads, and bolt-ons. No aftermarket cam, no power adder, and no slicks, and there are weight penalties for the heads and intake!!! I am running a hugely restricted class and I would have to drop over 1 second to be competetive, but it is easier to compete with similarly modded Mustangs than Corvettes with who knows what in them!!!
.3 is no problem with a manual swap. Remember the Mustangs AOD is a crappy tranny. It is the same as in the passenger cars and pick-ups. Cars with similar combos as mine and sticks run mid to low 13s!!!

First you write that your an LS-1 vette killer. Then you say your not, it was a joke, but people do take offense to that. Age has nothing to do with owning or racing a car, im younger then you (16)and I own a vette. You have a lot to do until you can consider yourself a vette killer, your not even an L-98 vette killer yet. When people see you saying your a vette killer runing low 14's, of course your gonna get called out.

Okay, if you take offense to a joke on the internet, you have some growing up to do. I have been on here a long time, and if you READ WHAT I WROTE, you will see that I know I am no Vette killer and I know he sucked at driving. And actually I have raced a 1991 (I think) L-98 Camaro and beat him, so no I cannot beat every Vette or every L-98, but the ONLY L-98 I have raced (although less modded) I beat, and the ONLY Vette I have raced beat me twice and I beat him twice. Thats 3-2 win record.
Age has everything to do with owning and racing a car. I make just over minimum wage, and I spend all my cash on my car (pretty much). If I were 18, I could get a much better job, and have a much faster car! I know plenty of 20+ year old guys with Mustangs, Camaros, Birds, and Vettes, and When they were 16 and 17 they had slow cars!!!
If you actually think, that I think Vettes are slow or I can kill LS1s, you have to lighten up a little bit!!!

hey if i beat a vette... bad driver or not... i would run around naked.... hell yea... stock 305 auto beatin a High-Tech LS-1 oh yea.... hey 5.0... good job... yea the driver sucked... but as the fastest man alive (Vin Diesel) says, " It doesnt matter if u win by and inch or a mile, wining is wining" that was also a joke...
