Me vs. 4.6 GT

Ok... we've already raced, this is a theoretical race here.

1996 4.6 GT with nothing but K+N and exhaust, 5 speed, ~ok~ at best driver.

Me: See sig

Result: She wins, der. Just kinda a slow steady pulling away from me, but once we're past about 45 MPH she dosen't gain any ground. About 1 1/2 carlenghts and holding. I got about the same result when I raced a freind of mines at the track, but he has a few more little things done to it and is a better driver. He had about 2- 2.5 cars on me. I think if I'd had gears it would have been very close, because it takes so long to get through 2nd gear.

Theoretical race: Same cars, but me with new motor. Basically an L98 350 with TBI. (Ultimate TBI W. 350 injectors + PROM, Edelbrock intake, ported L98 heads, LT1 cam, 10:1 pistons, already have full exhaust). Soon to be followed by tranny rebuild and 3.42 or maybe 3.73 rear end.

Think the outcome will be different next summer? Or am I going to mild (its my only car though, driven year round, and I have a very small budget keep that in mind)

I think you will take him next summer with the mods you plan. One question though, why are you gonna use TBI on the L98? It would be better to stick a carb on there or find a motor with TPI.

not to offend ya or anything ..hardrock

but i thought trhe 4.6 was better in the higher rpms
than the TBI 305...he shouldve left u...once he got
moving
(correct me if im wrong ppl)

i race 305 TBIs.. they leave me in the start because of the
torque..but i mostly catch up and overtake them!!!

Theoretically that is right. the 4.6L Motor loves the high revs. That is why Mustang guys throw 4.10's and higher at em. They love to sing up over 5000RPM. Maybe she didn't know that and was short shifting putting herself too low in the revs for the next gear? Gotta rev the **** out of the 4.6's to get good times unlike the 5.0's which haul *** at 2500RPM.

I think she was toying with you. If you trapped 84, She would have pulled on you the whole way, and the only real place you could have taken her was on the launch! Her car is easily trapping 94-96!!!

Do your guys think that a stock 350 would be a 4.6 or a 5.0.

I depeneds, but it would have an easier time with a 96-98 4.6L or a 94-95 5.0L and have a harder time with a 87-93 5.0L and 99-up 4.6's

No, its somebody I know pretty well, we were really racing. BTW the motor in her car is just as beat to hell as mine with half my milage, it blows oil smoke at anything over about 2000 RPMs that you can clearly see in the daylight. She might not be shifting high enough either. Hell she can hardly even bark second and gets all happy when she does once in a blue moon. I never said she was a world class driver, and she dosen't know much about cars mechanically. Just likes looks and attention. Its people like this that make me want to be faster so bad. Because she like almost never looses a race around here and gets so big headed about the car... it drives everyone nuts. But I can't beat her! Yet...

Reason I'm sticking with TBI: The car is already set up for it. Converting to TPI would be a lot of work, and honestly, I would see no HP increase from it. Maybe a bit of mid range torque but thats about it. I'd have to change wiring harness, ECM, fuel pump + lines, then add the TPI manifold itself not to mention injectors n stuff, mess around with throttle cable/TV cable for a TPI car, and this stuff all is very expensive and time consuming. The motor I have in mind will be almost a direct bolt in replacement. I can't have the car down for a week or 2 because its my only car. And someday if I wanna upgrade the TPI down the road, even more $$. A TPI base alone costs more than any TBI or carb manifold outside of tunnel rams and other wild stuff.

I'm not bashing TPI I'm just saying for what I want to accomplish for power its not needed, and for what I can spend on the project its out of the question.

No carbs either. Like I said, its my only car, so cold starts and MPG matter. Now I know somones gonna come out and give me the "A properly tuned carb will/will not this or that and will this/that just as good as such n such" but its not what I want.

Dave-Send Tia my way. The way she drives, its nothing but Chevy taillights for her.

BTW-I was in your car and you were more like on her back bumper and pulling...Gears and you have HER...

Just so the Peoria guys reading this know.... She's now officially out of the group. None of us are talking to her anymore, no loss either shes a total biznich and we're all better off without her in our lives. Just ignore her from now on, and if she's persistant, do whatever you feel neccesary to get rid of her.

A cows a understatement. See she cant even scratch 2nd gear with a 5-speed in the car. I just think its b/c her fat *** in weighing the car down!

If I see her, all I have to do it thow a hoho at her.
