Why does everyone race for money?
Why does everyone race for money?
Why can't we just race for bragging rights? I know that rodding is expensive, but that's a lame *** way to justify running your car for $100 or better. I was talking to my dad and he said he rarely raced for cash. I've only been in one race where the other guy was cool enough to race just to see what the outcome would be. Everyone always wants to run, but they always wanna go for money. I hate that. If I win I take the guys money that would be better spent on making his car faster and more enjoyable, and if I lose then I'm pissed, because I need a new cam and that money just went down the pisser. I thought this was a hobby, not a casino. Just my vent.
All my non money races.
'91 Talon TSI lightly modded. He got one and I got one.
AWD Turbo Galant I was even with him, but that little 4 banger could really pull on the big end. Made a new friend that day.
Numerous stop light races that I always enjoy.

I totaly agree, I race for the fun and for the rush. I will never race for cash. The most I ever ran for was the dinner bill but that was between friends so it was cool. Anyone else notice the people that wanna go for money seem to be the same people that get really mad when they lose and try mess with your car or something? From what I see anyone thats got a V8 sports car or some good old muscle is in it for the fun, the ricers do it for the money. Anyone see that racing thing on MTV? made the import guys look pretty stupid if you ask me.
I'm glad other people feel that way. It's a disease around here. No one does anything unless there's a pile of cash on the line. Even the domestic cars, so it's not just a rice thing. This was before The Slow and the Pissed Off too, so that movie didn't have much to do with it, but it didn't help either.

I raced for money the other day and now I look back at it and feel so sorry for the guy that lost it. I was at the track lined up with a Boxster that I had beaten on the way over to the track and also beaten 2 time before in the 1/4. So I line up with him and one of the guys that sprays the hose for the water box comes to me and says "man I hope u aint planning on hanging with that" and I said "dont be to suprised when I do" then he said "five dollors says he beats you" I told him fine raced the Boxster and the Boxster had it worst run of the day (15.5 ). Then I went and took the five dollars, he kept telling me double or nothin and I was like fine but they wouldnt let me race again, so I took his five dollars. Now I look back at it and think, dam thats a whole hour of work for him and I just took it. Now I feel like a greedy *******

I have raced for money but I will also race if money's not involved. $$ is brought in to a race to lure someone who wouldn't normally race you, (tempted some stupid ***** who talks it up into a race for $50). That way later he won't talk big and if he does then you have the proof. Also the $50 bet is a rush to be added to the rush of racing. A double whammy, kind of like having sex with two girls instead of just one.
Later, Garrett

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!
Never thought of it that way. What if one of the chicks takes all of your money after you pass out from way too much sex? Sure you had fun, but now your broke! LOL

i only race for money when i know i can win or i have a good chance. but i also like to race for fun. just to see the competition.
I've seen some people that wouldn't race unless there was a LOT of money (like 500 or 1000)involved. Most of them were really @$$holes, too. I think that they only will run for a lot of money because their cars aren't as fast as they want you to think they are, and most people don't have a grand to drop on a race, so they don't get challenged. I think that is a lot of it.
If you're going for money, you'd better be able to afford to lose it and not get all pissy about it. If you can't afford to loose, then you can't afford to gamble!

I never race for money. I do it for the love of going fast and being pushed back in my seat. I just go out and drive out to the country sometimes and hit the gas when nobody is around, get up to the top of 3rd gear (135ish MPH) and let off. If I line up and beat the guy next to me, cool. If I lose, I'm pissed (who likes losing?), but I still have fun.
I'll race anyone anywhere! woot... except i dont have my car right now
Back home i only encountered 2 people that wanted to race me for money and i've had COUNTLESS races. From my experience the people who wanted to race for money were the people that talked trash all day long and didnt have the ***** to back it up, then they say something stupid like "you'll have to pay for my gas" "its not even going to be worth it for me, lets race for money"

ATO,
I'll give ya a run for fun in the T/A if you'd like. How does meeting up at taco hell on 75th sound? Let me know.
I, like others on the street and this board, like to race for $$. Why? I guess it is kind of like going to the casino and shooting some craps. With the way most races are spotted out or started, they are pretty much a toss up anyway. Also, racing for money keeps (no offense of any High School aged thirdgeners) the younger punks away from the scene who are only there to cause trouble. Lets all face it, since F&F came out street racing has become a spectator sport. When I race, the only people ALLOWED to come to the race spot are those who have money riding on the race.
For those of you in the Chicagoland Area who are looking to run let me know.

i never raced for money!! not sure if i would..
but i have raced and it has cost me money, alot of money about 3,000 dollars!!!
i forgot that when racing and having a good time that i am driving around in money (my car), and when i wrecked it during a race on the street i really felt bad....
r.i.p 1988 iroc-z 5.7 camaro, my first car; at least it went out with a bang lol.
now i try not to race at all on the streets. its just not worth it in my mind to many people dying around where i live doing it..

Racing for money acts as a deterrent to people who just want to see what they can beat. Let's face it, our cars aren't going to last forever, and it's expensive to maintain them. If you back down from a race, you're seen as a "wuss", even if you know you can beat whoever is challenging you. But it isn't worth it to race every jerk-off who spins his tires just for the sound and the smoke. Throwing a little money on the line keeps these people from harrassing you, and allows you to repair the damage you caused to your car by racing it. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it's fun to beat jerks just for the helluvit, but if I raced everyone who wanted to, it would put so much wear on my car that I wouldn't be able to race anymore. In short, racing for cash allows me to keep racing for fun. I would only race for cash if it were against someone I knew I could beat, because of the damage it causes. I would be less likely to put money on the line if it were against someone who would give me a close run, simply because that would be fun.
yea plus i dont feel bad when i pull up in 4th gear going 30mph and my car makes no sound at all when the rest of the ricers look at me like "omg easy cash pickings." i race on the street if i come to a light but im starting to get in the REAL street racing scene. i could use to beat a few ricers/stangs and make about $100 or so a night. just think about it as $100 in 14 seconds
im not stupid and know my limitations, if an LS1 guy starts talking **** I have an excuse...i have just a 305 and then they leave me alone, all you 350 guys get the **** worse than i do
so i do both and racing for cash is a lot more fun in my opinion, its not like im at a light and a car pulls up revs and we race for pride, when i race for cash its pride, respect, and money. especially when everyone sees you smoke the crap outta a "modded vtech." man i wish he woulda raced me for like a thousand bucks cause i passed him like he was in reverse.
