TFS 306vs vortec 350.. again
For those of you who doubted my ability to take the TFS stang through the 1/4
(see topic: TFS 306 vs Vortec 350...sorta)
My friend with his TFS 306 mustang and I finally made it to the track together. Before getting there we weighed each other and discovered, with both of us in the cars, there was only a 20lbs difference between the two of us! I was 20 lbs lighter.
This was looking to be a good match of gearing and HP.
I have 3.73's spinning 265/50/15 radial T/A's with an A4
he was running 3.55 gears in between 245/50/16 comp T/A's with a T5
His engine is a built&balanced 306 with forged internals, pocket ported TFS aluminum heads, TFS intake, a 560 lift cam, long tube headers, and tons of suspension work.
we started out in the low 14's with our first 3 runs and we were both amazed at how close our times were. I owned the better times for most of the day. I was able to run a few 13.9's to his 14.1's by mid day.
Finally the temp started cooling down a bit, we both let our cars cool for an hour and tryed again, unfortunatly we couldn't line up together but we both got our best times of the day
the stang broke into the 13's with a 13.90 and I pulled a 13.7
The stang has way more top end than me, he was trapping 100-102+ all day long, my best mph was a 99, but it usually ran 97-98
I'm impressed with his top end power, according to our slips, I was holding him off past the 1/8mile and then he starts gaining big time on me.
If we were to correct for altitude we were running mid-low 13's at sealevel.
if we had any kind of decent tire, we would both be mid 13's up here.
in his defence, his compression is down and his cam is a grind designed for blown engines. he's adding a 13psi procharger this coming week and his shortblock was designed for that instead of N/A
he will be mid 12's easy I bet.
I'm gunning for 13.3's up here with a cam swap and a 2500 converter

 2100 feet isn't that high. I ran 14.6 at 3500+ feet, and 98 degree weather. I was only trapping 94-95 though. I usually race at 1000 feet, and low 14s at 96-97. Sounds good, but at sea level his combo should br going 12s on street tires at 110+!!!

My friend (with the stang) was told today, by one of the regular bracket racers there that he calculated the air density to be 4700ft the day we were racing (sat). I guess he has a weather station thing to figure that out.. but I'm not sure if I believe that.. that puts me in the high 12's!
my average 60' was 2.1
his was 2.3
my best was a 2.08
his was 2.28
Both of us seemed to be the fastest street cars there though, like top 3 of the street cars running radials.
there were a bunch of street cars on the slicks that we were beating too. another fox stang with heads, cobra intake, headers, and more than likely a cam. he was running 14.4s on ET streets.
our neihbor in the pits was claiming 500hp out of his 401AMC smallblock, with slicks on the back and a high stall converter he was running 13.7's@102.......
a 5 speed SN95 5.0 was running high 15's, a TPI ZZ4 iroc was running 15.2's..
but my car?? in the 12's??? I don't know about that.

Wow there must be a huge difference from 4700 to 3500 feet. My dad at 3500 that day was running 14.0 and one 13.9. I am not calling you a liar, but it seems to be a little slow up there!
