What's your set up again?

Either way start with getting headers and a cat-back as this is one of the weakes spots on 3rd GEns.

Are you an auto or stick? A higher stall TC would help a lot too. Or maybe some gears.

Well the fastest while in stock condition is going to be the LB9 (tpi).

However, if you are looking for a car that you are planning on modding, I'd look for a L69 (305HO). After dealing with the tpi intake and primitive computer for years (look @ my sig.) I can tell ya you'll be able to get more ET for the $$ with the L69. The computer system (CC Carb) is simple and effective.

Get a L69/5 speed
Do the free Qjet mods
Toss in a healthy cam (just try with tpi ) and new springs
Bolt up headers and exhaust
3.73 gears

You should be running solid 14's. If you want more ET than that do some head work you'll be there. Stock LT1/T56's should be a pretty good race with that combo

Well,

What are you waiting for? Headers/exhaust/carb first, then cam & springs.

You should be able to handle these installs, as long as you can turn a wrench.

is that all i need... now i need about 15 or so hundred to make my cars run with the ls1s i didnt know that now i need money for it. but i have a 65 elcamino thats my runner but its still under construction all i need to do is drop in the distributor hook up the hoses and wires gas line from pump to carb and hopefully it will run. so the camaro is on the back burner cuz it runs and it walks most imports so it does its job but i meant like free upgrades things i can do with like 50 bucks or less to start out with. taking off parts and stuff like that. do u have any ideas on these things

if you're looking for some cheep mods, you might try moding your air cleaner. The stock air cleaner setup is really crappy. Try using an open element and get some new plugs, wires, cap, rotor. stuff like that. But if you want some real power out of the 305 you're gonna have to atleast get heads and a cam eventually.

Actually,
The stock L69 aircleaner is one of the best out there. Open element = hot intake air

The Qjet mods will probably get ya more SOTP gains. Check out the tech articles.

S.O.T.P = seat of the pants, as in seat of the pants difference, or what you feel after you do a mod. FYI when I put an open element on my RS I felt a nice difference, it made the car pull harder at all rpms. Of course in all fairness I didn't have the L69 air cleaner to compare it too, but I've always heard that air volume is the primary concern, then air temperature. Either way you'd get a better bang for your buck by keeping the L69 and spending your cash on something else, like a little blue bottle.

RB83L69 seems to know a lot about that issue, very knowledgable guy. And I believe, he would take the HO intake over an open element all the way. Though I like the look of an open element over the HO one, even if it is a measly 2 hp or so.
