i don't know too much about the details of each car, but i believe the 73 would be somewhat faster. because it wasn't made too far into the smog engine era, like the 79 trans am.

Road runner wins both 1/4 and top speed. Sorry (don't tell your old man) But again it's a Dodge and those cars are super expensive.

If the Road runner had a big block with a four barrel, it would win. They could be had with a 400 or a 440 in 73. If it had a small block, it would be too close to call (and a slow race). I think the only small block was the 318 in 73. Quite a different story if it was a 340.
The TA would hopefully be equipped with the Poncho engine. The 403 Olds motors were slower.

very true.
The only real threats of the 70's T/A's were the 455 4 speed cars. These bad boys could ruin your day when tinkered with. Toss a set of 400 heads on and you're tasting 12's with traction.

the ta had the 403 (oops
)
in my dads and his friends opinion the ta had a better top end (clocked at 140+, got a ticket for 75 in a 55 zone)
but the road runner took off way better
i cant get ahold of either of them to ask what motor the rr had (there hunting) but i will find out soon

My uncle recently restored a 79 Trans Am and wickedly built a 455 and dropped it in there. This thing is an absolute beast. He says it dynoed at 430 rwhp, and over 600 ft/lbs of torque. He's shooting for mid 12's with traction, and 11's with his nitrous that he ordered.
