'00 SS vs my GT
All i know about his car is thats its a 331 with a 150shot, gears, nittos, full exhaust and whatever.... Personially, id be very upset if a built my motor from the bottom up, and it got beat that bad by a stock LS1 with a 100shot....

i had that spark plug problem and it was arcing bad. my dad replaced it, he said there was no arcing, but didnt drive it yet. i think that alone should put me in the low 13s and its got more miles on it now too (about 1300 total on 331).
There are some bad azz 306s that are killing cars everywhere. it all depends on how well you match your parts and how well you stick your car to the pavement. that goes for ford or GM. part matching and driving is key.
How did you know that you were runnin on 7 cyl?
Sometimes even the right parts just need to be freshened up. A friend of mine has a 1990 LX with a B cam, GT-40 aluminum heads, a Cobra intake, 65mm throttle body, 73mm Mass air, 24lb injectors, 1.7 roller rockers, full exhaust, 3.73s and many other driveline parts. He was running 13.6 (his best) to 14.3 (all last year). He finally brought it somewhere and had new valve springs put in, and some other work done and now the car is going mid 12s on his Gtech (which is now mine!). Sometimes cars just don't react like others!
How could you not tell one of your spark plugs was loose to begine with????
Back with my old 1991 Z28, one of the plug wires became disconnected and it ran like sh2t and felt like i had mabey half the power... I diffently wouldnt have raced anyone with a car running the way it would with a spark plug not working.. Its also something you should notice is just driving the car normal....

My friend has a 95 GT loaded with every option . He has box stock Edelbrock Performer heads, E-303 cam, 1.7 RR's, Edlebrock Performer intake, 73mm MAF, 70mm TB, and full exhaust. He has ZERO tuning and stock FPR still! He ran a 12.9@111.8 with it on street tires (2.09 60ft) and was breaking loose into 3rd gear. That is with stock bottom end and parts you can just buy out of a catalog. He also has a 93 LX that ran a 12.9@99 all stock motor even the intake, TB, and MAF. He now has Edlebrock Performers, 1.7's custom cam, Bennet upper on ported GT-40 lower, full exhaust, Ppowerdyne SC with about 9psi and ran a 10.81@126 with it on the stock bottom end and T-5.
Another guy I know "had" (it got stolen) a 87 GT with just home ported TFS head, small cam, 1.7's, Victor Jr. intake, 650 carb, on a stock bottem end. Had a T-5 with 4.30's and ran 11.54@119 ALL MOTOR!

You have to factor in weight. There is no way(no way in hell) You could get 11's from a 104 trap speed. It is mathematically impossible(unless your running 2300lbs.) I can't compare my car to an n/a car, but figuring in the base weight of a GT(at least 3200lbs.) Your gonna need to trap at least 108 to get in the 11's and that is with a 1.6 60'.
As far as Ford and the 302, the reason the 302 has an advantage is the heads( the symmetrical cylinder heads of the 302 perform better than the 305's, their valve angle is also better than the 23* Chevy's). The Chevy cylinder head is a compromise. The new LS1 heads have symmetrical, cathedral ports(don't have the restriction in them like normal sbc heads).
As to the other guy talking about the 305 not having a stroke(the pipe is getting to you). The stroke is the same in both the 305 and 350 3.48in.
If you want your 11's throw in a 100 shot and be done with it. There is something missing in your combo. A good 6speed LS1 will trap 107 in the 1/4. You definately have your work cut out for you. Third gear in the LS1 is a killer. If you can manage to actually get em off the line hope you have a top end charge to hold him off cause he will be coming for you up top.
You may see a 12.7 or so with a good 1.7 60' but not much more if you are pulling through the traps at 104mph. And I can almost guarentee that with a 1.6-1.7 60' you will lose maybe a mph or two. Your speed will go down but et will reduce also. With a good 60' You could pick up close to .9 with your combo right now, which would put around the 12.9-13.0 range.
If he is a better than average driver he's gonna take your lunch money!!!!!!!!!!!

We know that now his car is slower, but if he gets it sorted out he should trap well over 110, which is good for 11s with a 3200 lb car and a low 1.7 60'!
bigals87z28, I am just going by what his combo in a good tune will run! If you don't want to believe what the Mustangs can do (typical of 15 second Fbody owners) then I hope you get surprised the next time you are next to a stock motored car!
The 305 can be made fast, yes, but it does take quite a bit of work. 11's are very possible (as baddest305 has shown) but the motor will be maxed out shortly after, and I don't know how many stronger aftermarket blocks there are for the diehard 305 guys!
I think with the right tune the Mustang should walk all over the LS1, and I know that may be hard for the LS1 lovers here to believe, but it is true!

If he gets it sorted out. That's gonna take some tuning to pick up 6 mph or so. Fords can be made quick as with any car. If you think a 305 can't me made to run down any modded stang get a set of heads port the intake and slap on a procharger and any 305 will muster enough grunt to beat up on many a car.
Bottom line is people take Ford threads with a grain of salt! The guys on the board(a GM board) do not like fords so you can understand the hostility.

Something you made up? I've NEVER had a single headgasket problem with my 5.0;s or my friends that I put together. Just like any other car..if the engine isn't tuned properly, things break/blow. I better go put my boots on...getting deep in here!

Now why don't you get out of your cave and build your own car instead of a friends car!!!
So when your aloud out of your cave get ahold of me so we can setup a race with your car and I'll show ya how much I know about cars and tuning!!!

You should be banned! you mentioned the c word(corral.net).
Next thing you know you'll be trying to get the guys to go to a Ford dealership when does it end? Just because the F-body is dead doesn't mean us loyalists are gonna switch.!!
Don't take it to heart. Life isn't permanent, have fun!!!!!!!
