The Grand AM doesn't have a 3800. That would be a Grand Prix GT. The fastest Grand AM has a 3400 SFI and that would be the Grand AM GT. A 3.1l won't beat a Grand AM GT, so I'm guessing you have the L03 TBI?

Yeah, if it was a grand am it had to be a 3.4, but a 3.8 grand am sure would rock if there was a such thing! I saw a 2 door gt of about the year you are describing up at the track over the summer, it was every bit as fast as my camaro was, and that was AFTER the headers and etc. I beat an earlier model though, about a 93 or so GT very badly.

My newest car is a 2002 Grand Am GT1. The "1" just indicates a leather interior. It has a functional Ram Air system. It doesn't do too bad. I'm used to the power of my IROC though, but it's definitely a nice ride.

Pontiac used to sell a whipple type screw supercharger kit for them, and I saw one installed at the dealership. Pretty fancy. He runs 13.2 second quarters, if I remember right. I would've loved to get the supercharger for it, but then my wife probably couldn't drive it.

Dimensionally, it's a tight engine bay. That 3.4 barely fits in there. Getting the oil filter in and out is a hassle. I don't know if a 3.8 would fit in the thing. I'd rather just put headers and dual exhaust on it, but I have to wait for the warrantee period to pass first.

GAGT

a good buddy of mine has an 01' Grand Am GT Ram Air, he put a modified CAI with a K&N filter, ha a torque converter lock up switch box, and the cats cut off and he is running a 15.6 in the 1/4, pretty impressive from his 15.8's and 16 flats....he can romp on peanut cammed 86 305 TPI's and some six banger Camaro's, but all and all, good run.....AARON

Ahh its the Grand Prix, not the Am. Gt 4dr 3800. Still i would like to know if the old L03 RS is doing better than it should or about right.

Now if you could keep up with a GTP, taht would be quite impressive! I have seen GTP's beat fox body stangs before, its funny to see a big four door car beat a Mustang!

My friend had an 98 GTP, smoked my 92 Z28 G92. He raced our other friends 95 Formula LT1 and gave the FireChicken one heck of an run. The bird won but wasnt overly dominating. There very impresive cars.

As for the Grand Prix GT, FastEddy took one out with his 85 Z28 LG4, he's got a few minor mods, so prolly runs not much more then your L03 does. Its was a neck and neck race for the first bit but top end the Camal took him out. So i would say your cars running peachy fine.

Cool beans. I thought so well, atleast i have an idea of how fast those things aren't. A bunch of guys at my school have em and keep talking about how fast they are and i thought (since the 3800 has more power, a bit less torque and deffinantly a better trans and gears) maybe they were reasonibly quik (maybe mid to upper 15's). Guess not now.

Ya and in 2004 models, all those grand prixs and grand ams are getting performance boosts. I think the GTP will be at 260hp, 20 up from before.

Guess that just means we have to work harder to try and keep up with these grocery cars.

Grand Prix GTP's... sigh. Supercharged right off the factory floor, so nice. Anyhow, the Grand AM GTs are nice looking IMO, but what a pitiful "ram air" system. Get this:

The Grand AM GT and the Alero GLS are the same car. Mechanically identical except that the GAGT has a "ram air" system. So the Alero has 170 horses stock, and the GAGT has 175. Whoooowhee! 5 whole horses from a "ram air". My friend drives a 99 Alero GLS (very nice - razzi gfx, spoiler, custom rims, custom leather interior) and as far as mods go he has - functional cai, stage 1 ported heads, headers, catback, u/d pulleys, and stb's. He smokes GAGT's in a bad bad way. Fairly quick little 3400 hes got there.

The 92-93 Grand Am GT with the High Output Quad 4 was as quick, if not quicker than the 3400 Grand Ams. The Quad 4 HO had 180hp (175hp in 93) and 160tq-- with a 5-speed manual trans. I've never taken mine to a track, but I've seen stock Quad 4 HO GAGTs running low-mid 15's.

So any idea on what these Grand Prix 3800's are running on the 1/4? I mean i know he'll take me on the upper end and all, but still would like to know how the RS is doing in a very ruff estimation.
