Raced a New Celica today...just for giggles.
Some old guy started creeping up at this red light we were at right next to me in his silver celica. Tehn when the light went green I eased off the clutch and he did to but then he started to gun it and I heard his little engine wheezing pretty loud... so I let him get about 2 lengths on me and then I nailed it ( in 2nd now) and flew by him and shifted from 2-3 when he was at my rear quarter. It was pretty funny, at the next light I looked over at him and started laughing and shaking my head, he looked pretty pissed.

Yeah, I have a friend w/ a Celica GT-S. They are not fast cars by any means. And he has an auto which makes it a real dog off the line b/c it takes forever to reach the powerband.

He said that you CAN do it. I'm sure if you have half a brain you know you SHOULDN'T do it. Reverse drops are a much more fun way to destroy an auto though.

I guess..
I don't think you can neutral drop doing 30+ miles an hour, or at least it wouldn't do you any good. As in the case of my little race here. And also most of the time neutral drops= no traction.

man! a neutral drop! that is hard core RlCER at its best!!! alot of the auto RlCERS around here rev up their engines to heck and neutral drop it....man it sounds horrible! a guy I know with a Talon did it about 6 times in a row and messed up his tranny pretty nicely...never never neutral drop...if you want to take off like a manual tranny on an auto....just do what every racer with knowledge does....get some meaty tires that can hook and a stall converter.....there you go....you got a bad *** launch and consistency....AARON

Before I found out more about the automotive field, I used to do what I call "Brake Burners". If your car is RWD, it's called "Brake Torqueing". Needless to say, I lost my share of brakes.

You mean stalling up into an aggressive RPM and then letting off the brake whilst simultaneously smashing the throttle? That's launching is it not? How would you ruin your brakes like that? I can see them being marginally more abused than someone who doesn;t but if your racing, you're buying new brakes more often than most people anyhow.
I think he means doing a slow moving burnout brake torquing. There is a red firebird in the movies page here that is doing it.
But the nuetral drop isnt a ***** thing. They used to do that in the 60's and 70's when my dad raced all the time.

I was referring to flooring the gas and brake pedal in a front wheel drive car.

I don't thonk brake torqueing (rwd) hurts your brakes. It may if your tires aren't spinning.

Shifting into drive with any rpm over about 1000-1500 is bad on an automatic transmission, especially with a stock stall.

I used to have an old cavalier that the trans was on its way out anyways, it took a while to shift from first to second. So before i brought it in to get the new trans me and my friend tried blowing up the old one. I was doing neutral drops from 5 grand, going backwards at about 25 then just pull the shifter back into 1st gear. After trying to kill it all day it still drove like it did earlier with the long 1st to 2nd shift. I dunno how it lasted but that was one tough trans lol
