mine i bought an 82 CFI Z/28 back in 91. this lady had it and moved here from tennesee. it only had 70k in miles. i bought it for 2 grand cash and but another 2 grand into it. new tranny new rear and some other stuff. got a set of iroc rims for it. did some mild porting and head work and a cam swap and she ran really good! too good. i blew the tranny when i first bought it. rebuilt it blew it again and cracked the fly wheel in 3 pieces. blew the rear out thats when i put the 3:42 richmond set everything from the axles in on it. had it for about another year and blew the tranny again. fixed it and it lasted about 6 months and 3rd gear went up drove it locally cause i moved down to atlanta and didn't have alot of cash to get it fixed then ended up storing it. i brought it back a few years ago and is on my project list to do a motor and tranny build up on it and bring it back to the glory days of my teenage years

i love this car and will never sell it! i'd sell my vette first for another one of course!

Bought an 88 iroc for my 18th birthday. Had it for 3 months total, within that time it was stolen twice, second time it never came back. That car was mint. It was found in a cargo container out in BC bound for somewhere overseas. They asked me how I was going to arrange pickup, and I (stupidly) said the insurance company owned it. I should have gone and got it.

Wow Cruz'n, that sucks dude. I bought my first Camaro in 2000. One of my friends had a '92RS, and I quickly decided I'd never own anything but an Iroc. Found my first one about an hour away. It was an '88 350(of course) and when I drove it, it was the fastest thing I'd ever driven...keep in mind my current vehicle is a '79 Chevy pickup. Decided I couldn't live w/o it and paid WAY too much for it b/c I was 19 and stupid. But I loved that car, and hated it when I lost the motor last year. It was a learning experience and helped me alot when I bought my next one.

The 88 was slow as all hell. 305 TBI, 5 speed, but it was mint. Anyways, I got the insurance money for it and bought the 87 Iroc. Drove the 305tpi for 2 years or so, then it came out and the 350 went in, for a week, blew it up, and then put the 383 in.

Currently, waiting on more parts.

I bought mine about a year and a half ago and still have it(kinda lol) bought pulled the motor about a month later and havent stopped dumping money into since...i put a basically stock 350 in it, couple months later needed more power so i got some vortec heads and some headers etc. and now just last thursday on graduation day I was going to the lake with a bunch of friends and my brakes locked up and i went off the side of a 6ft cliff and flew about 15ft...frame is bent and Im not going to repair the car now, so it is for sale really cheap 1300obo, i have close to 8k in reciepts and now its worthless

every since i was 12, i loved f-bodies. whenever i was in the car when i was younger, i would scream and point "there's one". in fact i still do that to this day. when i was 16 and ready to buy a car, i drove around looking for cars for sale, then suddenly when coming up to a stop light, i look around. On my right, i see the most beat up looking firebird known to man. Immediatetly, i pull a 180, and drive up to the mechanic where the car was located. I asked him how much for it, he said $400. I came back the next day, test drove it, and bought it for $300. that was in the summer of 2002, i'll have my car for one year this summer. right now i've spent $1841 on the car, and it runs 15.5's... not bad eh

my story is a little different, for i didnt buy the car, but my dad did. Now before people start going off saying that my daddy bought me my car, he didnt really. See, my dad bought the car new in 87. He took me when i was 3 yrs old to the dealer. He loved the camaro since it came out, and once had a 68, but it had so many problems, that he just gave up on it. He had looked at all the dealerships, and saw who had what he wanted. The IROC's were flying off the lot, so he wasnt gunna get a deal on one, and my mom didnt want it to have a 5spd so she could drive it (that puzzles me, cause my mom can drive stick pretty good, she used to drive a Fiat spider). He saw a red Z28, fully loaded with everything but rear disks (which he didnt know they made them) and the 305 TPI auto. He was set. On the way there, he said to me " Alex, remember the numbers 16-8 ok?" So my dad is talking with the salseman, and the sales guy is sayin he aint going lower then 17,200, and my dad says, well 16,800 is my offer, and i aint budging. He says, 17k and thats it... so my dad says "Hey alex, tell the man want im gunna pay" and of course, i said 16-8... that made the salesman flip out, and he said OK OK OK... and now, 16 years later, i have dropped about 1,200 on the car to get it fixed up and I pay for everything for that car now. Thats my story.

I was 7, my parents had gotten divorced and my mom and I were living with my grandparents. My dad would come and pick me up from daycare for a while and take me to eat then bring me back. When we were out i'd always see this blue IROC-Z and I thought it was the coolest looking car. My aunts neighbor also had a black one and i'd always say I want one of those. So...... 11 years later, one of my best friends was getting ready to go to Colorado and had a white 86 IROC-Z with a 305 TPI, t-tops, had some front end damage and paint was a lil rough. He owed $4000 on it still and wanted to sell it before he left. I had saved $3000 dollars since I was 9 for a car and so I got a loan for $1200 on my own and bought the car. That was in the July of 2000, right after I graduated HS. I've had lots of ups and downs with the car, but the longer I have her, the harder it gets to sell it when I have offers to sell her or something goes wrong. I guess I don't sell it b/c it is the only thing that really makes me happy.

my story is kinda long..annd boring. lol

the iroc story.

ok, i guess i will start from the beginning. when i was 13, i got hit by a car when i was crossing the street going to the store. I was in the crosswalk and i got a $16,000 settlement. I couldn't touch the money till i was 18. So i had quite a while to decide on what i was going to buy. I was young and had always wanted to buy a "minitruck". my dream car at the time was a mazda b22 pickup, with the camper shell and lowered, with a bad **** system. ok so then i actually got a car when i was 16. It was a 85 cadillac cimarron. this is the cavalier of cadillacs. the car sucked, 4 cyc, single fuel injector. i drove the car all the time, and people always tried to race me (no idea why). finaaly i got addicted to speed. about a month before i turned 18, i got a sportscar autotrader and started looking for something fast. i knew nothing about cars. i was first thinking about a mustang, cause i had seen alot of them all suped up. i judged the speed by the liter. i figured, a 5.7 camaro was definately better than a 5.0 mustang. so i started calling about a couple of the cars. after i got my money, i called this guy that had a mint 90 Iroc. It was white with the yellow and gray pinstripes. 350 TPI, 4-speed auto, 54,000 miles, and perfect inside and out. $6,500 firm.

it was like 10:30 pm and he decided to come over to show me the car. as soon as the car pulled up, my legs got weak. the car was BEAUTIFUL. i knew at that moment that i was going to buy the car. he offered to go on a test drive. so as me and my best friend were riding in the car, the owner says, give it some gas. i nail it and were doing 90 in seconds. i told him, i want this car. he says, ok well i will get the paperwork ready and you can call me tomorrow. it was a friday night, and that kinda disappointed me. i tell him, i want the car tonight. i have CASH.

he asks me if i know of a 24 hour notary. i tell him my aunt can do it, and were off to her house.

so...i have the car for 3 days. i go down and put a $1,000 stereo system in it, and crusing around later that night, i notice the rpm's flucuating a little bit while im sitting at a light. i'm like "WTF!?", so i turn the corner and head for the gas station. as i pull in the car dies. i try to start it and it just cranks and cranks and cranks. i open the hood and check everything i can imagine. my brother comes down to the gas station and we spend about 4 more hours and still can't get it to do ****. finally the next day i have it towed to a chevy dealer and they inform me that i lost 3,6, & 8 injectors. it cost me a little over $900 and i'm on the road again.

about a week goes by and as we're leaving a movie theater, i see all these people standing out front. i hammer it (trying to sho off a bit) and i lose control and the car goes waaay sideways. i panic, and stomp on the brake pedal, but my foot was half on the brake and half on the gas, so the car jus keeps sliding untill... "BOOM", i hit the curb. i pull off the curb and go down the nearest side street. i notice that to go straight, i have to have the steering wheel turned completely sidways. i get out and look at the car, everything looks fine, with the exception of a big scuff on the tire.

about 3 days of driving the car like that, and i finally take it to the shop. they fix alignment, and replace a couple other things, and the 2 front tires. another $700. (my fault this time)

tired of reading yet?

so about a month goes by and my fuel pump goes out. another $700.

over the next 4 years, i have countless problems...starter, radiator, electrical, tires, fuel pressure from the pump (can't pass emissions), waterpump, heater core, thermostat, tires, tranny, and then the tires again. the car sat for '99 and '00. finally i was able to get it registered out of town, so i didn't have to pass emissions.

currently it is sitting again, with another set of tires, and a blown tranny. but i don't care. the new tranny should be here tuesday or wensday, along with a bunch of other stuff i bought this past week. she'll be up and on the road again soon. mustangs beware.

the car might not be as pretty as it used to be, i wrecked it in '98 but put new fender and front clip on it in january. but its still pretty.

sorry that was so long.

the end.

Bought it from a kid who got his girl pregnant

I bought my 92 Camaro RS (305 TBI) from a kid with a hard luck case. He had just bought a brand new Camaro (at that time a 2001) and had to make payments on the thing within a few days. He also had a pregnant girlfriend, so... At first he offered told me $3000, which was cool because the blue book was $5600. And then a day later he called and said $2000 because he had to make a payment and his kid was about to be born.

Best deal in my whole life. I could still sell the thing and make a profit.

I remember mine........Just graduated High school and was driving a 1979 Sierra classic half ton (Wish I still had that truck). Me and pops went to "look" around and found it....1987 Camaro with the carbed 305. I thought I was the sh$t!!!!!!! It was white with red interior, auto , hard top , and about 60,000 miles on it. Had the car for about 3 years until some a$$clown hit me in the **** while I was stopped. Hit me so hard my JVC pullout ( old school radio....awesome at the time though) flew into the back seat and I bent the steering wheel in the shape of my hands...Saw it coming and FROZE!!!!

Oh well.....I would not have my 'Bird right now if it was not for that.

Wow, bigals87z28, I have an 87 Camaro that my dad bought brand new too.

Only I was born in '87 and therefore not old enough to remember it. I remember, though, when I was like 5 or 6 years old he would always say jokingly, "One of these days, you'll be driving this car!"

I bet he never thought he'd see the day.

syphon, my dad said the same thing. When i first drove it when i got my permit at 16, he was just about to sell the car. It was kind of a bummer, so he let me drive it one time before he got rid of it. I fell inlove with the car so much, that i just told my dad to forget about it. plus my friends were into my car more then i was. I didnt know chit about the car, just that it was fast. Thats when i came here to learn more, and now i know a pretty good amount. In a way, TGO saved my thirdgen from being sold... THANKS THIRD GEN!!! :: ques corny music :: anyway, I havent driven the car since i came home from college cause of the insurance being off it for the winter. My dad usualy takes car of that (a sports car in NJ would cost me $2000000000, where my dad 1k a year), so i just have to wait it out.

Got my 92 RS from a friend for 2 grand. He lied about alot of stuff..and alot of it was rigged. It did come with a borla exhaust, ignition upgrade, chip, and a ragged out TH350, bad power window motors, bad roof liner, holes in the seats, bad tires and shocks..and really bad crankcase buildup..other then that...
