Had to shut down an Iroc with my import
(As quoted from my web site)
I saw a blue VW Bug that looked like it had work done to it cruising tonight so I hopped on out and tried to pick up a race... no bite (cool guy tho). But there was a primered Iroc-Z in front of him that did. Normally I don't race from a stop in the VW (wheel hop from the frame flexing), but I figured I'd go from the light easy on the throttle and if I heard him step on it I'd do the same. Sure enough I hear the engine rev up and the wheels spin so I blow through my first two gears. Take a look to the side, he's not there. Take a look in the mirror, and he's 2.5 cars back and still tryin. After I got to the end of third gear he got out of it, I was doing around 75.
Then less than 45 seconds later I get pulled over. For a taillight being out. (Cute blonde cop tho.
)
Sorry to shut down one of my own, since I also own an Iroc, but I ran what I brought.

I built an engine for it in my dining room and trimmed the interior down a little. You can check out the build here: http://www.tucsonstreetracing.com/vwengine/

Since this post I've killed another thirdgen. This time an 86 Iroc. He gave up and turned around by the time I hit third gear.
Here's a shot of the dashboard that I love.

Heh....
You guys must not have seen very many fast bugs....there are tons of them in Hawaii......there are more than a few that are scraping the back bumpers and runnin 9's. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. Hilo, Hawaii is home of the fastest 4 cylinder engine in the country. A dragster with a VW engine that runs mid-low 7 second slips. Not bad for a 4 banger.

I said I've seen Bugs in the 9's. Read carefully.
Edit: Quarterflash 2 is the fastest in Hawaii. It has run 7.16 and 7.17 respectively and the fastest has been 7.04 by Kris Lauffer.
Edit again: This I found in an Article:
The team of Keoki DeSa & Charles Asato set the HVW A/D quarter mile national record at Hilo Drag Strip on May 30, 1999 with a run of 7.162 sec @ 182.161 mph. This was followed by a qualifying back-up run of 7.177 @ 180.918. This car runs a Pauter Super Pro motor of 3445cc (108mm bore x 94mm stroke), turbocharged on methanol. Power is transmitted to the ground through a two speed Powerglide transmission.

it would only do about 100 but it would get there faster then 99% of the cars out there...i remember we raced a 95 vette...and walked him to about 90...
it was a helluva sleeper

i almost sold my t/a to start building a bug. i used to build westfalias in highschool. i used to do sheetmetal work for a guy from southern Cali who was a really big guy in vw restoration. people would ship him their cars from over seas to have him redo them. he's been in hot vw many times.
i'd like to find a 73-75 bug, put a 2200 w/turbo, t5, fiberglass front end, widened fenders.....
yeah, old vw's aren't something to laugh about when it comes to racing. :hail:

My dad once had a Porsche 914... basically a VW with Porsche badges though.
Looked like a lunchbox, or a brick with a handle.
