87 Camaro LG4 vs. 97 Camaro Z28
anybody that lives in Charleston, SC I was at the Ashley Phos. Dorchester Rd. Light behind a 97 Z28 and the light changed green and he launched off and I stayed right with him so he let me becide him and I punched it and then so did he and by time we were almost in front the Bosh plant I was still in front of him. I checked my spedo and it was pinned at the trip od. needle so I guess we were doing about 100MPH maybe 105MPH in a 50MPH zone then I had to make my turn to go home I just waved to him ant went home. I t was sooo much fun.

yeah definately. I just raced my friend in my 87 iroc 350 tpi with a 700r4 tranny and a trans go shift kit and he has a 95 lt1 trans am 6 speed. i kept up with him for a little (he still had about a car or so on me) then at about 60 he pulled on me pretty good. what im trying to say is if my iroc couldnt keep up then it just sounds a little out of wack to me hehe.

I think it was a 3.4 that would have been close but the 3.8 or more would have left you

LT1 cars were 14 second cars, LG4 cars were 16 second cars. That's a possible 20 cars lead in the quarter, which would be by 100mph. It would have to be the worst LT1 car I've ever heard of

But to beat an LG4 in the 1/4 I dont even have to leave second gear, proved it to a friend of mine with an 85 Z28 LG4 5-Speed with bolt ons.

my bone stock 84' auto LG4 equipped Z28 went 16.0 at 85mph. your 87' should do slightly better due to its 20hp boost, but still nowhere near what a LT1 will do.
just for a comparison, my girlfriends 94' auto Formula with nothing but cold air has run a best of 13.7 at 101 in this hot air. theres a 2 second difference between a LG4 and a LT1

Unfortunetly no the car didnt servive the ditch, I twisted the frame so bad the pass side head light could only go half way up. I miss that sleeper, I always got laughed at when I pulled up beside another sports car at a set of lights, but I never lost a street race in it, so I always got the last laugh
The fastest LG4 I have seen ran a 15.8 with only headers, k/n with the dual snorkle breather. Slowest LT1 I have seen ran a 15.01 so still no comparison. I am sure if u started adding cam's and intakes and heads and such u could make LG4's fast.

Are you sure on the year? The 3.8 was in full production in 1996... most stock 3.8's should still beat the fastest LG4...
The 3.8 runs mid 15's I believe with an auto fully loaded. I have a '97 3.8 and I'm pushing probably about 215-220 Hp.
I've raced a supposed Z28 of similar year... I gave him enough competition to worry him, but he gained a carlength by 60... not sure what year or the tranny type.

About the LG4 vs. 3.8
I also have an 87 Z28 with an LG4 and 2.73 open. I put in a new 700R4, K&N, headers, y-pipe, high flow cat, cat-back, and some 245's in the back. My dad has an 01 3.8 5 speed with ram-air, lid, cat-back, and 3.23's. We have raced 6 times now at the strip, and I have taken him 5 of them. The only one he got me on was my first time ever at the strip. He can't drive it very well, since its a 15 second car stock, and his best run was 16.2. My best is a 16.3 @ 82. He always traps higher than me, but im still beating him. We are going to the track tuesday night, where I hope to hit 15.8 after sorting out some little things. I can now get some good rubber (10 foot strips) while it shifts to second. It could never do that before. But hes taking his W41 powerd GA. which will really hand it to me, it should be mid to low 14s

Most of the cars I've seen with my mods or similar are running ~ 14.6 - 14.8 with good tires and a good driver.

I know he can't drive. As soon as he can drive it decently I know I'm gone. He wants me to take a run with his car, and I really really want to top his time, since he also makes fun of how I have an auto, and that I can't drive stick all the time.

Milage around 125 XXX Kilometers (miles = ?), Weather..hmm....mid to high 70's, no launch, just stomping from stand still. Apparently these times are right around normal.
