2002 WRX went down to GTA

Well my cousin came down from WA in his 2002 stock WRX. I really didnt want to run him with my car running like crap at idle so I had my buddy run him in his 98 Z28. the Z destroyed it so I thought I would run him. All wheel drives are a nasty off the line as we all know and he was right there at my rear tires. I spun some but not much. I stayed ahead of him the whole way and ended up winning by about 1 car. Second race I launched perfect and took him by about 1.5 cars. My cousic weighs about 450 so it will be much closer when he looses the weight.
So needless to say, he is going back to WA not very happy

Brian

Those things are a beast from a dig but really fall flat up top when all of that parasitic power loss from the AWD kicks in. You are lucky that he got off the line bad or you would have had to play catch up.

I've got a catless HKS up-pipe,catless HKS downpipe, and a borla catback for go-fast mods. I ran the 13.5@100 on a rather hot day too..the car feels somewhat stronger on cool nights when the intercooler isn't heat soaked. But if he wants to go faster i'd suggest a full turboback exhaust,up-pipe..and some kind of tuning to go with it. If I had the cobb stage 2 tuning done on my car it would be a 13.0-13.1 car all day long..just because of the boost adjustments and whatnot. He could get away with all these mods depending on how mod friendly his dealer is.

Ya they are mid-low 14 sec cars. But his weight is killing about .5 on his times. Plus he isnt the greatest driver in the world. I showed him some stuff and he is getting better. If he launches at about 5k he takes off like a mad dog!

Not really .5ths. The average adult weighs between 150 and 250lbs. So if he weighed about 250lb to 150lb he'd gain .2 to .3 tenths in the 1/4 mile if the old standby of 100lb=1/10th holds true.

Nice kill! Imprezas are crap! Most are slow unless they're properly launched, and their launch is about the only good thing they've got goin' for 'em.

My friend works at a Subaru dealership and is always trying to sell me one. He keeps telling me 35k for an Sti... 35k!! I'd rather get an LS1 GTO (even though they look like crap.)

I think he's supposed to have bought his Sti by now... I should go find him and humiliate him in my 12 year old gas guzzler with an open rear, crappy stock gearing, and old tires. If I see him I'll let you guys know what happens.

Best i've seen in a mag reveiw was a 13.1..Best I saw in person was the same. But they're a mid to low 13 second car depending on who is driving.

After he lost to the Z-28, was he expecting to beat you?

There ya go, another person underestimated the thirdgen. Why do I see this happen so much? Is it because they're like 10-20 years old? Doesn't matter, at least now he knows somewhat of how those types of engines perform, and has a little bit more respect for them I hope. (just inferencing that he didn't to begin, not trying to be disrespectful).

Yep, they're quick with a good driver.

Luckily for me, I know the guy driving... and he isn't what I'd call a "good" driver. Hell, I don't know how that guy is still on the road....

You're right, it's probably 100 times more reliable than my car. I still wouldn't pay 35k for reliability though. And I always forget that they aren't called Imprezas... WRX owners usually jump on me when I say that.

I have a '91 firebird with a carb'd 355. My car is very slow... but I can keep up with stock STi's without a problem. Give 'em a few mods though, and I doubt I'll hang with them. A few STi's here run mid to high 12's with a few bolt-ons. (Don't know exactly what they have.)

He is 30. But ya, he didnt respect them but he didnt flame on them either. He had a 97 RS with bolt ons so his WRX is pretty quick compared to that. But he said that the next time he pulls up to one he will give it some respect
