I just got home on break yesterday afternoon, piddled around with my car a little, went out to eat with the family, all that good stuff. Last night my friend comes over with his '95 Camaro. Before I left over christmas I helped him do a cam swap. We put mildly ported LT1 heads, CC306 cam, 986 valve springs, Edelbrock headers, no cat, and pcmforless computer tuning. I ended up having to leave to head back to school before he finished his car, so this was the first time I'd seen it running.
When I got home my dad said my car had been running great, but he couldn't hear the massive exhaust leak coming from the drivers side collector. I said screw it, I didn't feel like messing with it, so I just left it. I mounted the Nitto's, made a few changes in the PCM to reduce the knock retard, and we headed down to the local hangout. On the highway, we went from every kind of roll imaginable, everything from 20 up to 70, backing off about 110. Nearly every time, he would pull 1/2 to a full car on me, but never more than that. So I knew he had a little more power to the ground than me.
On the way back to the shop, we stopped and made 3 passes from a dig. The first time I launched at about 2500, I got zero tire spin, he got a little, I murdered him and pulled atleast 3 lengths on him. Second 2 times I launched at 3000, he tried launching a little higher, I got just a little bit of spin, he roasted the tires, and I pulled over 3 lengths. These tires are incredible. Granted, part of it is his terrible driving, which I expected (he used to drive a Civic), but even if we would have raced a full 1/4 mile I would have kept at least a full length on him, if not more.

how do you like the drag radials as a street tire, i mean they do good for straights but how do they do around the turns.

They are great street tires. I'm running 275/40/17's and they feel no different as far as turning and handling than my Eagle F1's did.Originally posted by nolanr0413

Yes I am also curious how they do daily driving, I am hoping to run 12.3 with some DR's but I hear they only last for like 2000 miles of driving.

Depends on how you drive it. If you drive your car like you're at the strip from every light, then yeah they aren't going to last very long. But if you take it easy on them with the occasional weekend romp on it, I've heard of people getting over 10000 miles out of them. I bought mine used with about 2000 miles on them and they still have atleast 75% tread left.

I got over 10000 miles from my first set of Nitto DRs. That's exceptional wear from a tire that only has 6/32" to begin with... The Nittos wear much better than the BFG which use a softer compound. Nittos are very street friendly. They handle so well in fact, many SCCA/Autocross racers use them instead of the road race compound tires!Originally posted by TexasLT1

They do good in the rain too!
Now that I've used Nittos DRs for a couple of years, I simply can't imagine running anything else. I put on a set of Kuhmos between my first set and second set of DRs and it was horrible. I couldn't wait to get my traction back

TexasLT1: How long till your buddy gets some DRs too? Now that he knows their advantages

Mike: They're Nittos. You going to HRP on Friday?
Marc: Hah, its going to be a while before my friend gets DR's as well, he needs a new clutch in a bad kind of way. He couldn't even launch on street tires too well at the track last time because it was slipping so bad.

I have BF Goodrich radial T/A's now and they are only 5 months old or about 3000 miles and they are REALLY bald in the rear, prolly cause they have over 50 passes at the strip on them. I go to the track a lot. I figure the regular street tires don't hook that well so they wear fast anyway, and the DR's hook good but have soft compound so it should last about the same the way I drive.Originally posted by TexasLT1
