**** Probe vs. Z

Some punk kid, one of my friends buds has a 1995 Ford Probe GT 5-speed 6 cylinder with only a fart pipe. He wants to run me with my 1992 305 TPI auto Z-28 with only a K+N cone filter. I personally think it is going to be a really close race and don't feel like loosing $100 bucks unless im pretty convinced I can win. The race will take place on a track, and he can surely shift because hes owned if for almost 3 years. Anyone have #s or times on probes. I Barely beat my friends 87 Z-28 that runs 15.7. So I think im around 15.6 best.

Lets here your feedback

-Pete

You will kill him. Don't worry. There is no way he runs 15's.

It'll be close. Get some more info on his car. The 3.0L V6s Probes are 15's cars. Have him pop the hood. We have a few older 2.2L "Butt Probes" running around here with large turbochargers on them. The newer ones are driven by the Fast & Furious crowd, so nitrous oxide will be used.

2.5L V6 Probes are 164hp and equal TQ. They are not quick but don't underestimate them. If you are barely pulling 15.7's, you might not be as well off as you think.

I hate fords but I'm just stating fact here.

Just be careful of them Probe GT's......I'd be very wary of him if you are running a 15.7

95 GT is a 2.5L 24V DOHC.

With CAI and Exhaust he very well may take you down if he can push through that 5spd with any talent.

That car makes no power down low so he will hook, then he will have a 6800rpm redline to run through the rest of the gears with.

I wouldnt put any cash on it.

Yep...some reason, probes think they are fast. Killed one the other night..had the giant biplane wing and folgers high fart exhaust...I hung with him till about 30, just toying with him....listening to his engine rev really high.

Then I stomped it and bye bye...damn fun.

Yeah, youll def need it...Probe GT's are very decent stock cars to run....15.5 is an underestimate, esp with a CAI....Good luck my friend...

I ran my buddies 1995 Ford Probe GT with my car. I took him by half a car length. It was close but I won.

I love V8 power

Believe it, the Probe GT is a pretty darn quick contender for what it has.

Take it from me, I own one. Never had it to the track though.

theoretically, if you could get an LO3 F-body to weigh as little as a probe GT. wouldn't the F-body beat the butt-probe? both the probe DOHC V-6 and the chevy 305 TBI put out 170 hp stock, and I'm pretty sure that the LO3 has at least 50 more lbs of torque. again I think its all about the weight of the probe that makes people think theyre fast. hell...if forget taking weight off a TBI F-body, just throw an LO3 into a stock fiero, thatll give the probe a run for its money. GMs DOHC V-6 is a lot better anyway, 3.4 liters not 2.5, aluminum heads and intake manifold, forged pistons, windage trey, the stock cams are even tunable.

why is your car only running only running a 15.6? that sounds pretty bad for a tpi motor.

sounds about right for a 305 TPI they should be low 15's to mid 15's

'93-97 Ford Probe GT 2.5L V-6 164/156 7.5 16.

These cars run arround High 15 stock. I think if he done some simple mods he will run right beside you. Dont underestimate these cars. Im shure youll be really suprised when you see him race you.

I do have a 89 GT Turbo Probe and it runs arround 15 or very high 14s in the right conditions.

The information on the 93-97 GT was from Performanceprobe.com

Good luck man.

The previous owner of my old 85 Iroc-Z(had a 305 TPI) ran a 15.09 I believe with an intake, good pair of tires, tune-up and I think he had a pair of new mufflers. A 92 Z-28 305 TPI should be hitting high 14s, at least that is what I saw at the track.

Do you have the cone directly on the throttle body?

Advance the timing some. Every little thing counts.

The heat picked up by your filter negates the benefit of the extra flow.
