Im 1:1 vs. a ls1 :D
Ok, kinda old but never bothered to post but anyways. About 2 sundays ago I got my car running exhaust and all and purring like a kitten. So I went out knowing the next day the body shop was gonna have it for another month (
) and thought I would have as much fun as possible before I turn my keys over to my body guy. Was about 1:30am and I went up and down the mainstrip here about 15 times looking for a fight pretty much. First up was a newer model 4.6 Gt mustang.
Were both at about 35mph and he punches it, he caught me off gaurd and I put my baby into third and away goes my neck snapping against the back seat im pulling on this guy fast and when I go by him I just wave and grin while he has this dumbfounded look on his face on how my raggidy car with RS badges just whomped by him. I get about 3 car lengths and shut down and he turns off.
So about 5 more passes on the strip thier are 3 ricers at some gas station talking it up about how they are gonna put a bigger coffee can on thier car and everytime I drive by I give them a rev and none bite....oh well.
So its getting to be about 2:45am and no sign of anyone (I was hoping to catch a white c5 vette me and my cousin always see when we go cruising at about this time but no luck) and out comes this white 98+ LS1 z28 with some ground effects. Im going about 40mph and he catches up and tries to get my attention by revving and gets just that, he punches it and I drop my baby back into third and awaaaaay we go. I immediatley pulled about 2 cars on him and started walking away, I got about 3-4 cars on him and we both shutdown. So now thier is a red light up ahead and were the only ones on road, Oh baby!
I ask him if he wants to go again and he nods. Light goes green, I punch it (I have no functioning tach
). So I can only play by ear how high im revving. I spin out and he takes off easy, Put it in second....still spinning out...uh oh. Go to third and it chirps and my baby is eating road again (along with his dust, he got me out of the hole). He gets about 3-4 cars on me and shuts off, I pull up next to him and give him a thumbs up he smiles and I turn off going home knowing my baby did me proud.
Was a interesting night and its nice to meet a guy who has respect. He certainly was surprised to see me jump him from a roll and he gunned it hard becase I heard his engine whine. He had an automatic. I need to get some better traction, im spinning out pretty bad. Soon as the car gets out of the shop she is getting LCA relocation brackets, putting my spohn tourque arm on and hopefully sub-frames if I have enough.
All in all, I love my car, im proud of her, she knocked off a LS1 from a roll and I didn't think she could. Nothing beats that neck snapping tourque, bua hahahaha.

man your lt1 must have responded really well to the mods you have done. how fast do you think your running in the 1/4 considering if you could get traction?

Hey there pasky! It's good to hear that your car and LT1/T56 swap has come along so well! That has got to be a blast, wish I had the time and money to do it. I finally got to drive an LT1 car yesterday though. My friend's brother bought a '93 Firebird Forumula with the LT1 and T56. He asked if I would like to try her out, and I said sure. I was impressed. That engine with the 6-speed was a blast!

Yea I love it. I've driven my cousin's 00' trans am and it just doesn't feel the same as the LT1. I know the LS1 makes its power up top, but the LT1 is just so much more fun with all that tourque. Its tourque curve is practically flat through the rpm's.

I agree with you pasky, I drove my buddies LS1 WS6 TA and it felt like a supercharged 6 cylinder. It was dog weak off the line. He had Nitto 555R's and I dumped the clutch at the strip at about 5000 and it barely spun for a second then bogged and went. He car is quick from a roll, but not much fun to drive fromstops IMO. My torque is also flat as a board and I love it. :hail: the real 350's, LT1's and L98's, not the gay 346 LS1.

You guys have got to be kidding about the ls1. Truth be told, an ls1 car will spank a car with one of the other two inferior engines if you're talking stock vs stock. Pesky of course your lt1 is going to feel more tqish than a stock ls1 cause of the headers. I will admit that some lt1s will run great and close to ls1's, but it's usually driver variables. Mod for mod, the ls1 just isn't in the same category as the other two engines, mainly because of the cylinder head design. Thread Starter

Ok first off, its Pasky, not sure if you spelled it that way on purpose or was a mistake but please get off the high horse, I ain't bashing the LS1, go post that in another thread there are plenty of those threads to explain why you like it better, go lock another post. I've driven a stock lt1 and guess what? It still had ***** down low, thats without headers. Check out the dyno of a LT1 its tourque curve is almost flat to the end.
The ls1 is a great motor yes, but it makes most of its power up top and a stock lt1 will grab it off the line but once both hit third its over for the lt1. And btw, who the hell compares stock cars? I know mine is modded and a modded ls1 will beat me, I have no idea what the guy had in his car though. Im just posting the fun I had not telling everyone the lt1 is the be all engine.

Pasky, okay, let me rephrase what I said. An lt1 does NOT have more tq than an ls1 in any part of it's power band, that's my point. An ls1 has just as much low end as a lt1. Do you really think a 3" runner intakes is going to produce a lot of low end tq like a tpi??? Both lt-1's and ls-1's produce close #'s between 3 and 3500 rpm, but that's where the ls1 pulls away big time in tq, which obviously makes more hp. So yeah the lt1 has a flatter appearing tq curve, cause it makes less hp.
The mention of stock engines was to clear up any confusion about the comparison of your particular engine to an stock ls1. You said that your lt1 is "so much more fun with all the low end tq" 00 TA. I only mentioned stock engines, because you're running headers. Put a set of long tubes on that ls1 and then tell me if an lt1 engine feels a lot more fun. By the way my first post was mainly for Gasgzlr and his rediculous comments.

Well, all I can say are from my experiences from driving a stock ls1 and stock lt1, the lt1 has more ***** off the line. It feels like it has more tourque, im not sure why it feels that way but it does. Im not trying to argue over which is the better motor, but I know I love mine and I can respect your input. I just don't want the thread getting locked by turning into a lt1 vs ls1 flame war.

No problem Pasky. I love your setup. I remember riding with the old man when he bought his M6 97 Z28 back in 98. I rode with his several times when he ran ls-1s and other lt-1's. There was a 98 TA that was the only real competition that he had, but he still pulled on that car by a nose. This 97 was really fast and it beat the heck out of other lt-1 cars. And this car was bone stock except my dad took out the air filter completely. So I do know that some lt-1's are factory freaks that can lay the smack down. I loved that 97 though. I do feel that overall that the ls-1's are much more fun to drive, JMO. But there is the occasional lt-1 that stands out above the rest kind of like Secretariat stands out in a group of thoroughbreads.

*Shrug*, all in good fun. I just want to catch a white corvette that cruises up and down on sunday night racing. I'd love to have a C5 under my belt.
