A guy I work with races them....Back away slowly if it is modded. Turbo 4 banger, alot of room for power enhancement on the stock bottom.

Certainly not designed with style in mind, are they?

Style was definately not intended however these little buggers are as fast as hell. I wouldn't recomend putting too much coin on the line. These Scirroco's take really well to simple mods and can really honk on bobo. Might have something to do with their low curb weight.

My friend has two of them, both stock. My 88 camaro beat them both when it had the 2.8 V6 in it.

I didn't know there were any of those little things over there in the states. Honestly, they're not fast, you'll have nothing to worry about with any of them in stock or slightly modded trim.

I saw a Scirrocco a while ago that had a tuned 300bhp 1.8L turbo VAG engine, but I'm sure you won't come across anything as rare as that.

I did a quick search on this for you Dingley:-

http://www.the-classic-sports-cars.com/porsche-924.html
A web-site about the 924/944 etc reports that:-
"At its introduction the Porsche 924 had good handling, but performance wasn’t what Porsche enthusiasts expected. In fact the VW Scirroco had faster acceleration, only a slightly slower top speed, more useable space and cost less."
A pic of the Scirroco:-
http://www.geocities.com/jonesruss2/pagerocco

Here is a site with pics of a Mk1 version:-
http://www.vwfixx.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11115

According to this site:- http://www.vwfixx.com/tuningguide/
Engine specs for the JH engine 83-84 GLi/GTi/Scirocco, 90bhp@5500 and 105ft-lb@3000rpm.
The 1986-1988 Scirocco with the 1.8L (1780cc) PL engine had 123bhp@5,800 rpm and 120 ft-lb@4,250 rpm
Theres a section on that site for 1/4 mile times also, but the only times are from freak wild cars in the 10's or 11's on shed loads of mods, or from guys with engine transplants in the 13's and 14's.

I still wouldn't bet too much money on it.

Assuming the guy knows the amount of power his own car makes, I think he might be hiding something from you.

I know you saw his "bone stock" engine with your own eyes, but that doesn't mean he couldn't put something that's not quite so stock in before the race.

Then again, maybe he just doesn't know his own car.

Does the engine have "16V" somewhere on the intake manifold? If so, youre screwed. 8V's arent that fast. 16V's are monsters. I had one.

ddn,
his name is dan, but he doesn't have tattoos everywhere.

vwdave,
his car does say 16v on it... but can the LG4 (modded) still take it?

If the scirocco is running right, he will probably get you. They had ALOT of problems with the FI. My GTI (also a 16V) had fuel injection problems.

let us know how it goes. If it was my friend dan then youd prolly know. Hes got a big coyfish and hes almost done his entire arms of tats. Skulls and various other coolness. My friend dan with the scirocco he wants to put the 16v or 20v or whatever in there and slap a turbo on it but I think his 63 impala is keeping him from that. Hell he hasnt even worked on that thing yet.

I had a modded 16v Rabbit GTi that I built. It ran 14.3. I doubt the scirocco you want to race can manage that, because I had a lot of work in mine and the rabbit's are lighter. I would race him. Especially if it is a long race.
