RAPED by a GTO

I was sitting at a Sonic tonight , where a local car club was having a Drive-In thing, my friend is part of it so i went for the 50% off food, there was this guy maybe a year or two older than me, with a 69 GTO, the same color as The Judge, I started talking to him, and we hung out all night, come time to leave, i find he is going the same way i am, so i decided to mess around with him, and gave him a rev, he revved back, so we wait for the light, light turns, i give it all i got, but by the time i was in 3rd, he had 5 lengths on me, and I didnt see him the rest of the way home until i stopped for a re-fill before returning home, and he pulls up, only then did i find out he was running a Dual Turbo 454, obviously a sleeper car, no visual or audial mods, cept for the magna flows, and supposedly, his turbos were hidden underneath some stuff, but sure enough as he popped the hood there sat two beautifully chromed TA-49's right to the sides of his Orange/Black 454 block, had Champion heads, 3.5 downpipe, 120lb injectors, he gets abou 23-25 lbs of boost of of them, running about 640-ish hp, he wants to have the blocked bored to a 477, but i shall know next time to stick to r!cers for now

If a car like that only had 5 lengths on you by 3rd, you must be punching out really decent times yourself. What kind of 1/4 times are you running? Ya, really, nothing wrong with losing to a car like that.

The GTO probably didnt give him all he had. I had a friend with turbo 355 in a late 70's nova. he was pulling 20psi on it and 550hp, but he had a ton of torque. He could play around on the street and get on it a little without probs, but if he tried to get on it hard in any gear at any speed the car would go sideways and he would have to regain control. Turbo V8's are nothing to mess with.

huh? No doubt you'd would have lost easily but this setup just doesn't jive. 3.5" downpipes are kind of rediculous for 4cyls, especially with a small turbo like those. And running that much boost...that is a lot. No mention of the HUGE intercooler that would have to be on that thing to even thing about running that kind of boost. And all that and only 640HP? Just doesn't add up.

82CrossFireInj, I see you on here a lot with your war stories. Sounds awesome. And by the kinds of things you go up against it sounds like the 383 is workin for ya. Did you build it up or is it some sort of crate?

I built it, bought my 82 and it had some crappy 305 some guy had in it, so i bought the 350, got the CFI from a friend's father, built it up, got a friend to do the machine work for it, to make it a 383, then i got my Champion heads for it, bigger downpipe, my flows, and i have yet to get the rear tires widened like i want them, but i have been looking for someone to do it, if neone knows who can do it real good for a reasonable price I'm open for suggestions

It usually does good, but lest we forget, in this topic, i was the viticm

Its worth having your *** handed to ya once in a while just to see a really badass car go at it. You should have seen the smile on my face after i got to go against a viper from a light and then again from a roll

Is there a specific reason you keep the CFI setup?
If you think it's quick now, you should put a decent FI setup or carb on it. The CFI completely sucks. Imagine the horsepower you could pick up with a nice intake and a holley DP.

You mean have the rear shortened, so you can put monster tires on? The best person to talk to is a good body guy about the tubs, and they may know someone who does the rear work.

not any special reason i kept the CFI, jus didnt have the urge to change it

no, i dont want slicks on the Maro, tho it wuld be cool, i wanna keep my street look, therefore widening the back tires, to make it look stock, but give me a lil more grip for my torque
