I was wondering out these two which would be faster. The cars 1989 Camaro Iroc-z 305 tpi auto, and a 1998 Bmw Z3 Roadster with the 2.8 liter engine. Both are stock

i think the beamer will take you, they are pretty quick little cars
Z3 are pretty quick but dont know their 1/4 time. 305 autos that are stock arent that quick at all. Get a converter and gears and you should be able to take em.
Curious also, how about a L98? I lined up with one once, but he didnt go.

The reason I was wondering was because my parents bought a Z3, so then they couldn't co-sign on a loan with me, so thus sadly I couldn't get a car. Lucky for me my uncle said he would loan me the money and I would have to pay for it like its a loan. So I've been looking at Irocs, but all of them in my area of Iowa that are for sale are junk. And all of them have had 305tpi, so it would be iceing on the cake to be able to get a car faster than the Z3. I can't even touch the car!

I've taken Z3s out on several occasions...I don't know what engine options they had tho.

wow really, did you take em out with your TBI? If so, thats very impressive. Is it stock or have you done Mods to it?

My ex's parents have one. I took it out on a few occasions, and besides me being horribly cramped (6'3") and my knees hitting the steerin wheel, the car felt like it had no ***** at all. I mean, maybe it's just going from my Camaro to a car tlike that that makes no noise at all, but the thing just felt like it wouldn't get out of it's own way...

Its got an open air element and 3" catback, nothing special right now. I could've just come across some bad drivers.

the regular Z-3s are nothing special. Ive beaten 2 different ones on several occations at the local track in my S-10. My S-10 ran a 15.7 off the bottle. I believe the ones that run the mid to high 14s are the M editons. Those are considerably quicker than the regular ones. The regular ones are an easy kill.

i've driven one... they'd have the potential to reel you in, so if you ever race, be sure to nail your launch....

Not quite. The 1998 Z3 had three engine options which included the 1.9 I4, the 2.8 I6 and the 3.2 I6 from the M3 sedan. All of them were DOHC.
1.9 I4 - 138hp; 133ft/lbs. tq
2.8 I6 - 193hp; 206ft/lbs. tq
3.2 I6 - 240hp; 225ft/lbs. tq
So essentially, if your parents happened to buy a Z3 with anything but the four banger, you're gonna get smoked with a 305 TPI.
EDIT: Just saw that you wrote 2.8. It'll probably be a close race but I would say that Z3 would still have you due to most likely being a lot lighter and probably being in a better state of tune.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN AUTO 305 CAR!!!. Wait until you at least find a 5sp 305 or a 350 you wont regret it. A 2.8 Z3 will most likely kill an auto 305 Iroc(unless it was an 85 they were the fastest 305 autos) any day of the week. Good Luck.
Got the car its a 1989 Iroc-z with a 305 tpi its an automatic, it has an aftermarket exhaust kit, aftermarket thermostat, and newer kuhmo ecsta tires, do you guys think I have a chance at all?
