94 cadillac northstar

So, my boss has this 94 caddy with Northstar engine, and every time I am telling these guys at work something new about my car, or about a race I was in, he chimes in about how his caddy would whip my camaro. I can never tell if he is serious, or just trying to ruffle my feathers. Anybody know what these things run in 1/4. I try to get him to race me, but he won't. Says he has nothing to prove.

His car:
94 Concours Northstar engine
Stock rubber
Trans upgrades for harder shift

My car:
88 camaro 350ci
Dart Iron Eagles 230 cc intake runner 208/165 valves 64cc chambers
Comp xr280r10 solid roller cam
Victor jr intake
750cfm performer carb
Hedman shorty's
245/45/16 Ventus K102 rubber
Boxed in rear LCA's
E.S. poly throughout
etc.

What do you guys think would happen if he would ever nut up and race me?

youll win, if i rem correctly, i read that those Northstar caddys were running 0-60 in 8 secs which is pretty good for a beefy car. I think you wont have probs at all, even tho there 32 valve northstar and its prob pushin some decent numbers... Youll win tho

Friend of mine had one.

Ran 14.8 @ 93MPH bone stock at the track. Fast car for a luxury car. We used to pick on imports with it.

That is what I thought. The funny thing is that when he leaves, I ask my co-workers if they think he is serious, and some say, "That thing runs good" or "Those things put a lot of power to the ground" "I don't know, Josh, your car spins too much"
I just had to get some opinions from my homeboys at thirdgen.

Does anybody else have first hand exp. on what these cars run? (Northstar)Has anybody seen articles on this car like Road /Track or Motor Trend?

Even better than the drag, I told him to bring it to the Auto x track, He says his car handles good "Road sensitive suspension" I called it "Granny's rear" sensitive suspension to his face. We get along pretty good.

He thinks your a stock 350 TPI Camaro. If you were, it would be close, but you're not. Setup a race and rip his throat out!!!

yeah, uhhhh, your setup looks like most drag racers setups that run 11's so his Northstar wont even be close. I dont know why your even slight bit concerned. Unless he is running big shot or boost, have no fear.

Sweet motors but arent they like 4.6liters? Only 300hp so LS1 would be better swap in a thirdgen. LOL

The fastest equipt northstar cars are the 325hp ones that run high 14's. The STS's and ETC's run 14.8 to 15 flat. The 94 year was 275hp I beleive and should be a mid 15 sec car. Good motors, heavy cars.

So, today I told him that I read on the net his car would run 14.8. He says to me, "That sounds about right, for a stock one, what does your car run"? I have never had it to strip with current setup. He guesses my car to run about 13.5. I say I think it will do about a 13.2 or so. He says, "I WOULDN'T HAVE TO DO MUCH TO MY CAR TO MAKE THAT UP."
OMG, does he know what that takes?

He just doesn't understand. It is okay. Just teach him how much that will really take. Not to mention that their are about zero aftermarket parts for the northstar out there.

I raced a 96 northstar, got beat by about 2-2.5 car legnths at around 70mph
he had the 275hp motor. My car was stock and so was his.

with what you have doen to your car you are gonna destroy him. Those cars move for what they are, but compared to an f-bdoy they arent quick at all. now there are some 94s and 95 with i think its an X in the Vin that were given Z rated tired and have no speed limiters. they also had close to 300 HP and were prolly mid 14 second cars stock. But dotn worry you have nothgin to fear racing him.

youll win a buddy of mine with a slightly hopped up 305 beat one by about 4 cars. with what you have you should take him easy. tell him you wont race for free because you would defenatley be waisting your time and gas.

Well, thanks for all of your kind words, gentlemen. I have decided to stop mentioning racing my boss, b/c he always just says he has nothing to prove. I told him I wasn't worried about it because deep down inside of himself he had to know my car would mop up the floor with him. He told me to think what I wanted to, then with a bit more probing out came the standby of "I have nothing to prove, because I don't care anyway" He says I am the one with something to prove......I guess in a way I am out to prove my car is faster, but he is the one who would have to convince half the world that low and behold, his car is faster. C'mon dude, wake up and smell my exhaust already.

In what world could you expect to beat me.......such a place does not exist.

Re: 94 cadillac northstar

I have a 97 Deville Concours vin 9 300hp Daily Driver. Gets 15 mpg in the city 26 mpg highway. Off the line traction is an issue TCS is noisy unlike the 94 530i I once had. Shifts stiff from 1-2 if you drive fast and then slow. I read somewhere that the vin 9 N* (now the L37 VVT) was designed to run at 6000rpm which most Caddy owners never do so they carbon up but a good thrashing clears it out. One time I beat a 97 540i at cruise 30-75 mph, another time a Mitsu Galant GTZ who was messing with me by 3 car lengths at 130mph the Concours top speed(limited)! On the highway! Bottom line for big bodies there quick 45mph+ handling very sloppy (my magnetic ride control) don't work so good no more! But you get used to it with brave skill! Never had it at the track. Pricey parts!! On the other hand one time I was cruising on the h way in my 95 Cavalier LS sedan 2.2 OHV 3 spd I decided to draft off a granny Deville (non Concours only 275Hp) he pushed it all the way to his limited top speed 112mph I then overtook him for a truly (stock Cav) satisfying 116mph (end of gauge) victory! Just thought I'd share my Nothstar experiences! Quote Mustang5L5 It's a lot of fun to pick on imports with one!

One more thing I wish my Concours wasn't FWD that's it's biggest flaw you can't do anything with that set up(V8 FWD)

Since you claim to have a good relationship with your boss, I believe he was only trying to get a rise out of you. If I were in your situation I would just enjoy the bench racing and have some fun with it, seems like he is good humored enough to enjoy it. Once you stop reacting to him, he will stop messing with you. Just my opinion. You would walk him though.

yes, and then they keep on pulling past 130mph with the factory limiter removed.

my little sister's Olds Aurora Autobahn with the 4.0L Northstar pulls all the way past 140mph. it's supposed to be limited at 138mph, but i've had it past that.

and yes, i realize i'm bumping a thread that's practically considered ancient, i don't care

Why? It's inferior to a LT1 or LS1...why would you go through all of that trouble and custom work to go slower than the current motors out there?

It's up there on the list for the "wow, that's cool" factor but that's about it. To each their own I guess.

because everyone and their grandma swaps an LSx or LTx engine into a Camaro. i'm so sick of everyone acting like nothing can beat the "almighty LS1." i've already found a company that has made over 1000hp on the factory block, though it did have modded internals.

i'm just going to swap in a L37 Northstar, mated to a T56 with 3.42 gears. it's not a drag car (as evidence by my SN), so i don't need to have the highest possible horsepower. i'll probably run some mild cams too (found them for under $600 already).

i'm just going to swap in a L37 Northstar, mated to a T56 with 3.42 gears. it's not a drag car (as evidence by my SN), so i don't need to have the highest possible horsepower. i'll probably run some mild cams too (found them for under $600 already).
dude dont mind him there is a guy on this board who made 400 horsepower out of a 1983 Crossfire Injection 305ci V8 and got 40 miles to the gallon

and keep me informed on your project i think it is a unique idea

"Don't mind me" Whatever, I wasn't ripping on the guy, was just questioning why he's spend more $$ to go slower. Link to the guy that has 400hp on tap and gets 40mpg please...

Anyway, to each their own, it's your money and your wallet...however just because someone got 1000hp of the block means nothing, it's not like you'll ever hit those power levels. ANYTHING can make power with enough $$ thrown at it. There's a reason why the LTx and LSx motors are swapped in. Being different is cool at times but if you're serious about performance then being unique and cool usually means you're not crossing the finish line first, just saying...

I'm curious to see if this swap actually happens...80% of the pipe dreamers on this site never do anything in regards to swaps, it's all fantasy and talk. Good luck!

Oh ok, yeah I know that car. Those stats aren't completely accurate but yeah, still completely off topic with wanting to swap in a Northstar motor into a thirdgen.
