Need some ideas and suggestions
OK, I recently posted about my race against my buddy's lincoln....well, he beat my RS bad about 2 - 2 1/2 cars. He did run 9.6's all night, hard for me to believe. But now, Ive got till Friday to make my t-top run 9.6's or better. I plan on purchasing a differant carb, buying FlowTech Shortie headers, and having 2 1/2 in Dual exhaust run and stop right before the axle, dumping into mostl ikely a pair of DynoMax Race Mufflers. Now, with the mods listed in my sig, a decent carb and that exhaust mod, is there a chance my car can get into the 9.6's or lower? Thanks.
If you have any other ideas on the exhaust, its always welcome....but thats the setup Im most likely going to go with.

whats the specs on the cam? I see only .442/465 lift. I would dump that intake and pick up a rpm one or torquer for more flow. Also, get a different carb like 700-750 cfm.
Change your plugs to match all one brand, also new wires to get rid of that crumbling old ones. advance your timing abit.
What rockers you running? 1.6 ratios for more lift would help alittle
your exhaust will be fine.
What gears you running? I would put some 3.42's in and/or drag radials. That should net you easy 9.6's.

ok, its for the LG4. I just picked up a used Holley 600cfm carb that Im about to rpelace the shot 625 Carter with. The exhuast is crap and Im purchasing some long tube heddmans and running dtraight duals to right past my front seats. SO, heres my questions:
WIthout the Headers and exhaust....I currently have stock exhaust manifolds and the y-pipe, into the car and then it goes for about 2-3 feet ofp ipe before it cuts off....with that stock exhaust, what do u think it will run (all mods are in Sig.) What aobut WITH Headers and dual FLowTech Glasspacks?
As for the crappy tune it was in, check the Sig...I went to ACCEL ignition, including plugs and wires. I hooked my Vac advance up as well. I do have big tires in back no stall yet but I can get my RPM's up to like 2000 off the line.
As for gears, its whatever came stock I believe. it didnt look liek it had been changed out but I could be wrong on that, Im thinkin 3.08's as my old Berly had those as well, could be wrong though.
Im using the stock rockers for now, kinda ran outta money at the moment and considering Friday is the last day the track is open, Im just lookin to do some fine tuning, slap some headers on and run with it. So, do you think it can run 9.6's or better? Id hate to go out this season losing.
BTW< I have been reading some timeslips lately.....There are some people who go to the local 1/8 track I run at and for instance, say the guy runs 9.2 in the 1/8, he runs like 14.1-14.2 in the 1/4....After looking at all of their slips, it seems that if you add about 5 seconds to their 1/8 times thats a damn good estimate of their 1/4 ET's........so, if Im running 10.2's in the 1/8, does that mean Im running low 15's in the 1/4? This didnt seem right ubt After looking over numerous timeslips, thats what it seems to be.....FYI 1 of the guys runs a SRT-4, 1 guy runs a 95 Camaro, and another runs a 89 Formula 350TBI 5 speed.
EDIT: The cam is a Summit cam Dur. 214/224 and .442/.465 lift....it was a kit, part SUM-K1103

As far as over carbing it, would a better higher RPM range intake be able to take a 700-750cfm carb?
i dont know man, he may take this one, but the carb could produce lots of power if the old one was shot. With good tires and good tune, i would say you have a chance. Good luck

Typically to figure a 1/4 time from an 1/8 time I heard you should multiply the time by 1.59. However, as I've been looking at my timeslips as well as others, it appears it'd be best to multiply by 1.56
9.6 = 14.9ish
10.2 = 15.9ish
When I went to the track, I ran consistent 10.1's and ran between 10.101 and 10.192 and ran between 15.77 and 15.86. That was with shot plugs and a crappy rusted coil-to-cap wire. Since then, my car seems to be running 9.4x and 14.7x, based on my laptops readings. Again, 1.56 seems to be an approximate multiplier.
