you put it in drive and go

or do you mean in a race if so you put it in 1 and run that to the redline then 2 and then d then od if od is there...

im gonna have to go with thegeneral.
if racing start out in 1st then bring to to about redline and shift it into 2nd without letting off the gas, then bring that to about redline and move the shifter into D aka 3rd then thats about as far as your going. putting it in OD wont do anything. well atleast not at WOT.

shifting mine manually while racing really does help. well from 2nd to 3rd it does. since it will shift too early for me in i leave it in od or d. so i shift it myself and i get a shift at the redlight instead of 1000 rpms before it.

manually shifting an auto transmission will help you out alot when racing it holds the transmission in that gear a little longer until you shift it so you can get to the proper rpm before you shift

It's fun to do, but a horrible way for an automatic transmission to die!

never had one die on me yet becauses of shifting it this way ..

i guess if you left it in 1 for a complete race or something but even then your going to be floating valves and damaging your engine before a transmission dies....

dont keep ur foot in it when u shift as ull burn up the clutches and bands. even my th350 died thats why im going to a m21 comes 2marrow with my new engine for the maro. anyways its easy hit the loud pedal and then when u wanna shift to second or 3rd or whatever gear let up a lil just as long as its not wot ur tranny will last longer. the more u let up the longer the trans survives

say what?!?!?!?! you do realize that the quicker it shifts the less heat is built up?NEVER let your foot off the throttle under wot and then stomp it back down!!!!!!!!! THAT burns up clutches!!! dont listen to that guy. i dont mean to offend you joc, im sure you mean well, but advice like that will cost people money in the long run! the more heat that is built up the more wear on the trans, slow shifts=wear. wow.

Auto shifting = 16.8; 80 mph

Manual shifting = 16.45; 84 mph

This may only be applicable to me since I have an aftermarket cam with a 2000-6000 rpm range, but manual shifting helps. I hit 5500rpms or so in 1st (50mph) which is about where my peak power is. When left in auto it shifts at 4500. Same thing in 2nd where I shift at around 5250rpms at 80mph. I have never hit 3rd gear in the 1/4mile, I just leave it in 2nd and keep pulling until I finish the pass. Stupid 2.73s

14.2 auto shift

14.02 manual shift but with a better launch so not sure how much was really gained.

b&m one its off my dads gto. to be honest the stock one worked fine for me even with my shift kit the only reason why the clutches and bands are going is because i drive it like a teen which i am so yea im hard on it. so is it worth it id say yes just for to be on the cautious side but if i were doin it all over again i prob wouldnt waste the money unless i had a higher stall over 2500 so id prob get it if i had a 3 or above stall

B&M shift kits are garbage, as are Hurst. Go with a Trans-Go kit. Best money youll ever spend. If youre running a B&M kit, thats why your trans's are burning up. I build transmissions on the side. If you start with junk, youll certainly end up with junk.

yeah its about right

mine can brake stall to 2600-2800rpms or so and its advertised at 2800rpms, so my guess is yours is about 2000-2200rpms

another way is to roll at like 5mph and carefull punch tap the gas. watch the tach and see at what rpm it hits before the car jerks forward. its kinda tricky to do and to get an accurate reading, but between brake stall and that, it should get you rough idea what you got. LOL

i have a trans cooler joc, its probly twice the size of your "b@m" cooler(there accutaly made by long, witch is who made mine) my cooler is a stack plate design and is 14"x13" and it was an oil cooler that came off a large diesel something or another out of a junkyard for $7. i am very pleased with the transgo shift kit i have, i am biased thou, transgo is all ive ever run. my trans was built by a local, i payed $400 and i can not complain, it is the best trans ive ever owned. the local guy also built a 4l60e that was behind our shop car, it made 677 hp and 828tq to the wheels and weighed 3742 with driver. it never broke and lives to this day in another daily driven car that makes 700tq.

shipping?!?!?! i drove to the junkyard. aint no shipping in a junkyard my freind, just rows and rows of metal and rubber and dead babies, waiting to be plucked from there nest and put on my car so i can break it and get another. the beauty of the junkyard is that i went on a treasure search, and it was an adventure. i found my treasure thru digging and cutting and pissing between two cars when i had to take a leak. if you gotta crap, you wait till you get home son, aint no craping in a junk yard
congradulations on getting a free trans cooler from your dad. last thing that was givin between me and my dad was me having a 700r4 built for his work van and him running all over town getting second gear scratches in a 3-ton gmc van.
next time you try to make some kind of atempt at a burn, try and do it so that you dont look like a kid whose dad gave him stuff. it works out better when you do things on your own, that way YOU are the reason that your car does what it does.

no offence joc, lets just be friends...

did you notice that i said a local guy built it?there is no shipping when a local guy builds your trans. when he gets done, you go pick it up, thats what local means, near home. id never buy a trans thru the mail or internet. i dont buy mail order becuase i like to suport local guys, the ones you can go to ther shop and ask why dont you have this part in stock, and how long will it take you to get it(both questions i know the answer to). i worked for a performance shop for 3 years as an assistant manager. and i know the industry. i dont care to be apart of it , because you see way to much stuff that makes you wish you still had your inocense.
