schooled a GTO the hard way today!
On my way home from getting a brake flush, I pulled out of the service center and at the same time a metallic blue GTO pulled out behind me from a burger king in the same parking lot. As we both turned to get on the main road he quicly pulled into the lane beside me...we had about a 3/4 mile of clear road ahead of us and I slowed down to 35mph and he was right there beside me so right there I knew he wanted to go. We came up to a light, we looked at each other and he gave me that ****ty look as if he's saying " an outdated thirdgen against brand new muscle, yeah right". Well, the light went green and I rolled off in 2nd because I didn't want to roast my tires and I still had him by the ***** although he took off in first and I wrapped second all the way up to 5700rpms during which he was already third and I still had a half a car on him...then I slammed 3rd and just started moving away so rapidly that I thought he slammed his brakes. I was gonna wrap 3rd up 6k and put about ten cars on him but a light was coming up LOL!. Darn!! the light went green before he came up because I would have paid to see that look on his face when he stopped beside me LOL!! Ummmm....I could think of a lot of better ways to spend 30grand than buying that sorry pileLOL!!

General, those GTO's are NOTHING SPECIAL...I saw two out here at bandimere before the season was out and they were both pulling between 13.7-13.9 with guys that were power shifting the hell outta them. Unless you supercharge one them, they are nothing worth writing home about...just some obese and overpriced Grand AM look-alikes.

A driver is a driver and if the **** wants to race and can't drive, too bad for him, he is the one staining the name on the GTO. You of all people should know HP numbers mean jack, besides, GTO's are pigs and the only quick ones I believe (stock anyways) are the ones with the manual transmission.

I hear you pasky....numbers don't mean sh*t because you can have a 500hp car and someone in a 250hp one whoop your ***.

You really saw them running high 13's? That's WAY impressive. I went to every single Club clash this year and last year, and not a single stock C5 Vette that I ever saw could make it out of the 14's. These were the Corvette Connection guys to, they know what they are doing.
I even saw a guy with a ZO6 running a 13.9 (I just figured he was a sucky driver though). So if you hadn't of said that you saw them run those times with your own eyes, I wouldn't have believed you.

I read the specs that General posted for the GTO and if those numbers are not @ the wheel numbers, GTO's are pigs and those suckers weigh in at close to 4000lbs so it wouldn't be going anywhere fast (if stock).

Hey Stu, it was at a wednesday night test and tune that I saw those two GTO's and their times weren't too shabby for them being so heavy but for 32,000grand(without some options) pontiac could have really done better their most popular name-plate....the GTO basically defined pontiac!

well they got a LS1 so they got some potential. we all know Ls1's are the shizzle. 30grand? thats about what new SS's and WS6's sold for. maybe just a shade under. ARe they worth less piles?

its all about the power to weight ratio and pontiac didn't quite nail it with the GTO. Everyone's crazy about the ls1 but any engine with potential will show MORE potential when it has a few hundred pounds less to drag around.

M6 GTO's can run mid 13's. 13.2 is the quickest so far. Sure it may be heavy but I wouldn't call it slow. Not to mention that the '05's get the LS2 and a solid 50hp more. Not to many 400hp cars out there for 30 grand.

Yeah, I think pontiac realized that they didn't quite hit an home run with the '04 so dropping the ls2 in the '05 is an attempt to redeem the the name....I hope it works for them though because their '04 sales are far less than stellar accross the country.

they are also adding some appearance changes as well to "liven up" the car. like hood scoops or something.
I seen a few GTO's and cant tell the difference from a grand Prix GTP and them. LOL except for the rims and the sound

what I want to know is if these 'new cars' power numbers are @ the wheel numbers because those are the numbers that matters in the practical world.

i am sure its not
just as the ls1 f-bodys of 98-02. rated at 305-320 hp but reallity was more like 350 on motor cuz same as Vette motor. LOL but indeed alot of stock ls1 fbodys putting down 290 hp or so at the wheels which is pretty stout! LOL
my guess is its the same 400hp motor as vette
probly putting easy 350 on ground or so

they have a new hood, exhaust that exits on both sides of the bumper, and a flat black bumper insert like on the 02 yellow TAs. They look real nice, and RIP. The LS2 really performs in them well. I have seen them run the streets (I see GM test cars all the time, look for the ls2 t-56 lumina SS to hit some time soon)

lol!, I have my eyes peeled for one of 'em new vettes but none has surfaced yet. I will deliberately pounce on vettes, cobras and the likes because I know if those cars are driven well they may/will put up a fight, anything else I don't even bother.

I havent heard anything about this but if its true that would be cool. Id rather see GM do this to the montecarlo or Impala not the lumina

As for why GM would do it... It's already in production. Same reason they imported a holden for the GTO.

why do it? thats easy...
GM has mass produced tons of LS2 motors and T56's and needs to get rid of them in everything they can. LOL :lala:

I think what Jgolden314 was talking about here:
Was just his way of mocking what they call a Monte SS now... basically the latest version of the 2 door lumina...
This is just what I understood it to mean... I could be wrong.
Any ways... Nice kill! I drove a manual GTO at the GM "AutoshowInMotion" nearby where I live and the thing hauled! I even got it sideways coming out of a hairpin...
edit 11-19-2004
Just went to that arabia link... Now I also think that this is possible too... Antoher carryover USA car from overseas!

General, my best time was 12.7 @ 5280ft elevation on street tires(yoko. 275/40/17) and it was spinning all through 1st. Can't wait for next seaon in which i'll run some dr's and a full re-tune of the motor and computer....should be knocking down 11's hopefully.

Thanks man, I thought that it was a good run myself considering thr elevation and street tires...the funny thing is there were two Mach1 and a gt mustang there that evening and I knew they weren't squeezing less than a 125 shot and they were battling with the 13's all evening lol!

Some GTO's are quicker than others. Mainly driver though.
I went 13.25@105.5 in mine with just a filter and thermostat. Buddy of mine did 13.1@106 and his is 100% bone stock. Both cars are M6. He got me on the launch. Don't know how he does it...1.89 to my 1.95.
There are some quick ones out there
