Man....my Mustang is heavier than I thought. lol I always thought that f-body's were alot heavier but guess not. I do have a stereo system that might add around 100lbs if that I think. My title says 3144 but those are never right.

There is some truth to Pasky's statement the all aluminum Ls1 block does weigh slightly less than a cast iron block. Also the rear end in a LS1 is wider which adds more weight. Along with stronger componets in SS models that were also slightly heavier. So if you put a LS1 engine in a 3rd gen without stock smog pump and a/c you are going to be about 200 lbs lighter. I also didn't see anybody mention that the transmissions makes a world of differents in weight 700R4 weigh alot more than a T5. My fully loaded 87 Iroc weighed in at 3650 at a weight station with me in it an I'm 170. I bet if you install a LS1 with no accesseries an a manual tranny your going to be bumping elbows with a FOX BODY!

Im weighing in at 3300 lbs. (without the driver). thats a 91 L98 coupe with the A/C yanked and smog pump gone. I took off the front sway bar, and im in the process of redoing the interior so the back seats are gone too. I weigh 210 so, i should diet for a better weight ratio.... does 100lbs. really equal .1 in the 1/4 mile??? Its what i hear.

weight

well. i dont know if its accurate or not, but my title says my full optioned 91 rs weighs 3021 pounds. Plus full tank of gas and me in it, should be no more than 3300. my 94 v6 camaro said 3200 and change on the title. but thats dry weight. so, yes they are lighter, but not a lot.

The T5 is super light compaired to a 700R4. I think there is a 100lb difference. At least whatever tranny you go with is right at the cars center of gravity which makes the weight managable. LS1's in 3rd gens are exactly as you mentioned and are about 150 to 200lbs lighter in the nose. You typically have to cut your springs to get the front to sit down. The SS didn't have any stronger components engine wise but the rear deck was a bit heavier along with the SLP nose option. The hoods were about the same really.

Erik-yeah I still have the T/A...hoping to repaint it soon....still runs strong(for a 305).

Fully loaded GTA's can get up there ,but in general I believe thirdgen's are a bit lighter.
Maybe as years went by more things became standard on the f-body thus its weight picking up a bit.
