me or the other guy?
OK, there is a guy who from the next town over who has been running around with his camaro trying to race everyone, but he bothers me the most cause I have an 89 Iroc, which he thinks it's a fake, cause some bonehead stole my fog lights. His car is a 98 camaro with v6, and I think its an auto, too.
I just want to know if this guy has any chance at all, since my car is only a 305 tpi with an automatic tranny, with only slight mods. As far as I know his car is completely stock.
I have taken down some v6 mustangs before, but I don't know have fast a v6 camaro is.
Also here are some other cars in town, that have been buggin me, I know you shoudn't race but we live in the middle of now where, and are town only has three hunderd people, and a part time cop. I was just wondering if I had any chance against any thing
dodge stealth base model
78 monte with a 355
few other camaros all Rs's
and a 1988 buick regal with a 383 and a supercharger, I know don't stand a chance huh?
And just so you know it not like a race all the time, just once in a great while, when we're bored or what not.

Well I don't have anything major, just new exhaust, and after market fans, no major engine stuff yet. I don't know very much about the car, only have had it for a few months, the guy that owned it before me was really into street racing. yet to dyno or G-Tech though.
so besides the exhaust and the fans, I don't know of anything else
this guy in the camaro has raced my freinds intrepid, and barely beat him, maybe by a car's length, while I beat him by at least four car lengths, and he was going all out.

You would definitely beat a v6 camaro. the best ive seen a stock one run is around 16.50. the slowest your iroc could be is a 15.50, if not faster.

see, i knew saying that would open up a can of worms, but i have seen many v6 camaro's talk smack and then go run mid 16's. sure, some are better then others, but they still don't stand a chance against a good TPI car.

I wouldn't be so sure of the 305 myself, even the TPI version. Just because one person ran 15.5 in one 305 TPI doesn't mean all of them are going to run that. His aftermarket exhaust mod may help, but that's a broad term at best. If he has headers, I'd definately go with the 305, but I doubt just an aftermarket exhaust (even if it was 3") would give him much more power over the stock exhaust. The exhaust is still very restricted by the manifolds. TPIs all came with electric fans as far as I know, so there's no real gain in power from getting aftermarket fans either.
Even then, he still didn't say if the other guy has done anything to his V6. I highly doubt he has based on the description we've been given... but there's always a possibility.
And I don't buy into the whole "Well my friend barely lost to this guy, and I spanked my friend's car bad when we raced!" mumbo jumbo. Just because you beat "car X" doesn't mean you'll beat "car Y" because the two of them raced and the former just barely beat the latter.
One last thing: You beat him by four car lengths, and he was actually racing?

i didn't say i saw one 305 run a 15.50. i've seen a guy with a BONE STOCK 305 run a 14.90. some are faster, some are slower. what i meant was 15.50 seems to be about the norm for a 305 car and 16.50 seems to be about the norm for a 3.8 camaro. yes, ive seen stock or lightly modded 3.8's dip into the 15's, but i wouldn't say that was enough to beat a tpi car. just go beat the dude, come back, and tell us how it went.

I don't know if this will help you judge, but when my 92RS W/305 TBI (lO3) was STOCK- I had a friend saying "wow, cool car, but my 69 camaro with a 383 will toast it" I thought it sure would and told him to bring it. He kept saying how it was in the body shop a few towns away "getting the bumper fixed" roight....
So a month or so later, I ask him where his car is...."still being worked on" but the funny thing is he claims him and his dad "built the whole motor up, and restored the car from the junkyard" But he takes it to the body shop for a bumper?? But at that time he was driving his brothers 98 firebird, stock with the V6. I said let's run 'em. From a roll of ~10mph I waited for him to jump then I went WOT, up through 1ST to ~40MPH I pulled a bumper or so. Right as I hit 2ND I pulled another few feet on him...But I hit the brakes hard right then as I saw a parked cop car with his spotlight on us...And through his megaphone he says "slow down!" hahahah, close call there...So buttom line is, my 305TBI was right on him, slightly faster. I say you'll get him.

I just told the story about the my freinds car to give you an idea of how fast he was running, I know just cause my freind beat him, and I beat my freind, doesn't mean I will beat that other camaro.
I just wanted to know if I can beat this kid, he is so arrogant and cocky that it drives me crazy. I only have the mods that I listed above, just differant exhaust and fans, stock headers and what not, and I know that the fans aren't gonna help horse power wise.
There maybe other mods, but I haven't had time to tear the car apart to find them, I'm only going off of other peoples experiences in third gens, and from my own.
I drove a few 350 cars, not in the worst shape either, just high miles, and my Iroc feels like it has more power, and a lot less miles only 80,000
By the way, I did beat him by four car lengths, not BS, he said he was going all out, but i don't know for sure cause I'm not him.
Not here trying to say that my car is the fastest car ever, I just wanted to know if you guys think I could beat this guy in the other camaro. I know my car isn't that fast and isn't near as fast as a good 350 car, I know a guy in my town with a mint 88 Iroc with a 350 , and he could run circles around me

I'd estimate four car lengths is like a little more than the size of a bus, if you line them up bumper to bumper. That seems like a huge margin to win by if he was really gunning it.

Why wouldnt the 305 TPI win??? hes pushing 230 bhp and 300 torque... So you guys are trying to say that a 305 tpi could get beat by a 3800 camaro? I raced a 98+ v6 camaro and i beat him so bad it wasnt even funny. im in a 350 tpi yes, but my dad has a 305 tpi, and it aint much slower than a 350 tpi. all my dad has is the exhaust opened up, he does have headers, but still. You will win, trust me.

16.50 seems to be about the norm for a 3.8 camaro. yes, ive seen stock or lightly modded 3.8's dip into the 15's
the 3.8 is a MUCH better motor than any of the 2.8,3.1,3.4 V6 family. GMHTP got a 98' V6 Camaro to run a 15.1 totally stock i believe

the series II 3.8 cars are pretty quick. There are a few that run at our track and not a single one ran slower than 15.8. Mid 15's seemed to be the norm. They are not slow for being the base model. Don't confuse them with the 3.4 cars.

There's a guy over on fbody.com that broke 13.9 with a bolt-on 3.8 car, and another guy that is right on his heels.
Those cars can be fast so watch out.

a 3.8 camaro m5 is a 14.9 car on a real good day with a real good driver so an a4 should be a 15.4 or so with a ok driver
