Lb9 Trans Am VS. Mid-90's T-Bird V8

Well I'm 115% stock it seems. So we both go off a light briskly, but not racing. I'm behind him and when I have a clear shot I downshift at 30mph or so and go to the next lane. He downshifts and we stay even till about 70mph where he proceeds to walk away from me and get in front of me in the lane to show me who's boss. We get to the next light and he turns left and we wave each other a good race.

Does this sound normal? I'm pretty sure this thing was a 95 or so. So it either had the 5.0 or the 4.6, I couldn't tell. But I feel I should've faired better. Are the stock 2.73's holding me back that much?

Aren't the auto tranny's in Fords POS's? What gearing do they have? What power do they put down? We were even most of the race until the end where he walked me and passed me.

Help me out here with info. I'm not saying he's modded, but he was looking to race me so maybe he's done some mods.

But is this race the norm with those V8 T-birds?

Its a 4.6L T-bird most likely and they are turds. I could pull a little ahead in my old LO3 Camaro so yes, they are turds. Stock vs Stock, you should win prettyeasily...I think they ran mid to high 15's stock...Ive never seen one run a mid 15 only high 15's. They are too damn heavy to be honest. The AOD isnt that bad but its like any automatic, it needs a Stall to be at its best.

I have a buddy who's cougar was running 15 flat bone stock. Gears, exhuast, and intake wake them up just like any other 5.0. I think the 4.6 wasn't around till 96 in those cars.

15 flat eh? I'm not saying they are slow cars. I just wanted to know what they are capable in stock form. If 15 flat is the norm, then that explains why he walked away from me. That's cool.

Shifty, do you know what gears he had?

When he ran those times he had the stock 3.08's in. He now has 3.73's but no new times. His car was basically stock when he ran those times minus flowmaster mufflers. I geuss the exhaust is the only thing that varies the power ratings between the cougar/thunderbird and the stang.

A lot! Ha. I am not sure how much but it does feel like a heavy car. I can get the exact specs from my buddy later. He lives for those cars.

I got some more on those MN12 cars. My bud ran a 15.2 at 91 with no mods in his '91 5.0 cougar.
