LT1 TA goes down hard, then tags a curb!

The weather has been real nice around here lately, mid 70s, sunny. So after a thorough wash and wax I decide to take it out for a spin. I'm just cruising along when I notice a convertible TA up ahead, so I up the pace a little to catch up. Its a clean red TA, LT1 car, with a Borla, and 2 blond hotties in the car, with some backwards hat rap blasting punk driving. I eventually pull up alongside and look over. I get the all too common "thug" stare He revs it up and yells "You don't want none!" So I drop in into 2nd around 5000rpms to let him know I was serious. I pulled in behind him as we both made our way through traffic. Eventually we caught a light, me next to him, both behind cars, but with no one behind us. I yelled over on three honks and he nodded. Light turns green, the cars ahead pull away, and he goes before the 3rd honk, and the girls waved bye. I launched it hard (Nittos bite well in warm weather ), and made up his lead by the top of 1st. Chirped 2nd pretty good, and absolutely blew right past him. 4 cars in the lead at the top of 2nd I let out. We come up on traffic again and he's just behind me. I look over when a Jeep pulls up with 2 guys in it. Both pointing and laughing at the punk in the TA. The TA guy got mad, pulled over in the turn lane and nailed it. He fishtailed around the turn, and smacked his LR tire on the center divider curb! The girl in the back apparently went airborne!

Thirdgens do have a bad rep. And I like it that way. However, they still have a ton of potential - obviously - as they are a factory SBC platform car. Most still somehow overlook the large drag radials, the large single exhaust, and the lope and sound of the exhaust. Anyone with half a clue would know I'm not your common stock 305.

LT1 or LS1, I wouldn't have mattered. Being a convertible TA with passengers, neither would have put up a fight. I'll keep up with a well driven LS1 car with no passengers, and occassionally inch past them.

Nice! That's funny as heck.

but yeah, that car is already fat (3800 ish lbs.) since it's a convertible, and there were three people in there. It's no wonder you pulled on him. He sounds stock with exhaust.

Watch out though, LT1s are as easy to mod as a Gen 1 SBC. But your average punk thinks it's the fastest sh*t out there lol.

Good kill!

Sure about that one? Parts availability isn't close to a third of what's available for the Gen I SBC, and what is available costs twice as much. And lets not get into engine bay access

nice kill, what size drag radials you running? 275 or 315's?

oh and lt1's only need a cam swap and tune to run some high 12's. its the LT1 intake that makes it great. loves to breath. match that with decent heads like ported LT1's, Lt4's or aftermarket trickflows, and you got yourself a screamer

bolt on's get you 12.4 - 12.6. Cam/heads is 11's for sure. In a heavy a$$ 4th gen.

Parts availability is lower because alot of parts interchange with gen 1s. I've bought a few gen 1 sbc parts and they fit fine. So if you think about it, the aftermarket isn't all that small. In fact, it's rather large.

There is no real price difference at all.

yeah the engine bay sucks.

Ported LT1 heads (stock castings worked over) are good up to about 430-450 HP. After that you'll have to go aftermarket. LT4s are good for the same, but they flow a little better stock.

the LT4s are a bit better when ported... there are people running 9s, and 10s with these N/A. id say thats a bit more than 450hp

get rid of the A/C and emmissions junk and youve got tons of room. if you only plan on doing minor boltons to a LT1, then hell yeah it sucks. but if your serious about going fast and you yank all the above stuff it opens up alot of space
