I need a bit of help

Ok so i got a friend who says power to weight has nothing to do with racing and that a 13.5 s 4 banger will always be better then a V8 that also gets 13.5 s.

He also says no way can my camaro weigh in at about 3300 lbs(none optioned 5 speed Z28) cuz the sticker on his neon says about the same for his car...

can plz somebody fill this kid in that weight has a huge impact on your track times and that there is more power potential of a V8 if you use it that is

i just cant talk sense into him about the basics of physics when racing so if the all knowing ppl TGO can help me out it would be greatly appriecated

If power to weight has no effect on racing then can he explain why 140 hp can propel a sport bike down the quarter in 10-11 seconds?

Your friend is an idiot. Power to weight ratio is everything. Just look at an F1 car or any other racing car. Your motor will also make more power under the curve even if peak valvues are similar. The larger the engine the more potential it has, period. If anyone doesn't believe that just watch a few top fuel cars go down the strip in 4.5 seconds with 5000hp 600ci big blocks. Not many cars in the NHRA use 4 bangers. Maybe in NOPI, but no one considers that racing

What car does he have that runs 13.5's?

He dont have a 13.5 car hell i dont have a 13 second car i am lucky to get low 14s, he has a stock neon he says hits 93 in the quarter but he has never been to the track to really prove it.

he is the "fastest racer in town"

Since this is the theoretical racing board:

Stock 1995 5 speed neon Vs. mildly modded 92' 5 speed Z28

You will own him unless he is boosted with extreme mods. The '95 neons were slow. I can't belive he thinks it is fast. He must have never ridden in a car that can go faster than 18 seconds in the 1/4.

these are the idiots in the racing scene who are new to the whole idea of how cars work and speed characteristics....ANOTHER WORDS....the people all the smart people ignore. When he tells you something dont argue just roll your eyes and walk away...or even better agree with him. Tell him he can smoke any trans am and maybe hell go and race someone for 100 bucks and then you can laugh when he embarrasses himself while telling you how he got his *** handed to him and cant figure out why

play with the morons its funner that way

yes FUNNER

Um, yeah....A car that traps 93mph isnt going to touch 13's. High 14's maybe. Stupid people....

A stock '95 Neon isn't going to touch 93 mph in the quarter is the important thing here.

his only mod is that he put a twin cam motor in it but i dont call that a mod i call that replacing a crappy motor with a less crappy motor....oh and he took off his a/c and power steering to save weight which contridicts what he said to me

Here is something funny he says a V8 with a supercharger, turbo or nitro is cheating and not worth the money he also said a super charged LS1 vette wont last 10k miles with one of those mods and wont get more then 16mpg...... BUT he wants to get a turbo for his car

i will ask him to put up or shut up at the 1/8 track we got a few towns over instead of doing the street thing since this argument is not worth me smashing my car into a deer or worse another person

Sounds like a tool, but find out more info about that motor, and verify that it's a DOHC. Didn't know there was a DOHC swap for a neon.

Stu, you have any input on that?

Some people are just too stupid to realize how stupid they are. Your friend is one of them.

Here's a little list of what non-SRT4 Neons can do:

1995 Dodge Neon Sport Coupe 8.0 16.2
1996 Dodge Neon Highline 9.1 16.8
1998 Dodge Neon R/T 7.5 15.9
2000 Dodge Neon R/T 7.7 16.4
2000 Dodge Neon ES 8.8 16.9
2001 Dodge Neon R/T 7.6 16.1

The stock 2.0L Neon engine is a single cam unit make 132HP. There is a DOHC 2.0L that makes 140HP, but the second gen Neons (2000 models and up) got a reworked 2.0L that makes 150HP. Only the SRT4 gets the 2.4L turbo with 230HP.

So, if he swapped to the DOHC he's got a whopping 8 more HP than stock. Are you shaking in your boots, because I'm not.

I am pretty much hated by every "racer" in town except this really hot blonde girl i know who drives an Iroc with a tank top on and T-tops off cuz she has no a/c

he said my car weighs atleast 4700lbs.......then i showed him this website and brought up the curb weights and such and he said thats the weight without an engine and tranny

Your friend understands power to weight ratio. My '92 Camaro RS weighs about 3300lbs and makes 140HP at the flywheel. My '99 Miata weighs 2300lbs and makes 140HP at the flywheel. Guess which one has better acceleration? Wrong! That would be my '04 PT Cruiser Stage 1 Turbo. (Yeah, I like all kinds of cars, sue me. )

Tell him curb weight is not the weight of the left over parts after it's been stolen, stripped and left on the curb. Did he drink a big ol' can of stupid recently?

Your friend is a tool. Race him. Rape him. End of story.

Seriously the only swap ever done on the old Neons is the DOHC Mitsu motor...its in the Stratus' and Eclipses....Not shabby butthe only swap and its still a waste of time.

I have a friend at work that has a 95 Neon. She plans on dropping in one of the SRT-4 motors.....well swap the k-member too but once its finished, that will be the ULTIMATE sleeper

Seriously, go smoke him and report back with how badly you left him.

You forgot the 1996 ACR neon, runs mid 15s with good driver.

He only wants to race me on the streets and i dont want to do that so he calls me a coward but he refuses to head to the track we have a few towns over to settle things

he also stated that my car is worth less vs. an SRT-4....then i explain to him my car has almost 20 year old technology and of course most new cars give me a run for my money then he said thats just an excuse V8 guys use when they get beat

Where in MN are you located? I have some family up there I'd like to visit one of these days soon, and I could molest him with my 305 if you'd like. By the time I get a chance to come up there, I should have the heads, cam, and intake installed, and a nice fresh bottle of giggle juice once I buy a new feed line

the kid is right though, his neon is a quick little r icer comparably. I remember this kid in HS got a dual cam neon and blew away all the hondas with their SOHC motors and bolt ons, when he was stock. he put big cams and some fuel management and was raping GSR and B16 powered hondas every run.

I can see how he got his big head, but this kid sounds like a ****.

Ok i figured something was up when my ***** friends have been avioding me for a few weeks.......turns out both my buddies that got neons gutted the **** out of them.

The one i have been talking about can now own my Camaro and reportly can break 100 in the quarter now

My other friend walked away from a Fiero that beat a 4.6 stang on juice

Then another that has a Talon beat another Camaro in town that has a built 350 with a pretty hot cam

Right under my nose they did all of this which means its time for me to start on looking for a new 3rd gen so i can start my 11 second project before their heads get too big if they can get any bigger that is

Wow he picked up 7mph by removing a few lightweight plastic interior pieces. After all these years I have been doing it wrong with cam swaps I would remain friends with them for other reasons besides cars.

yeah thats what i have been thinking....its what he is installing on his motor soon is what has got me worried..

and when i say he gutted his car i mean EVERYTHING he only has one seat and only the neccesary compenents in his car to make it run its basically a tin can on wheels now with a modded out mystery engine he put in there

i dont have much of a reason to be friends with the kid or many of my other friends since they are useless slackers except for maybe 4 or 5 out of the other 2 dozen

Instead of racing this kid, you should just date his sister and punch him in the stomach. Please stop talking to him, because each new 'update' you bring us just pisses me off. Good luck though.

Edit: Also, let him see you driving around with hot girls in your car and see how quick he puts his interior back in.

My thoughts ecxactly he really does get on my nerves, the fact that most ppl think he is a loser is revenge enough

i am HIGHLY doubting he can even break 90 in the quarter cuz i headed over to a neon website similar to this one and ppl running a ton of mods on similar cars cant even get high 14s on slicks so i doubt his pretty much stock car can be faster then theirs

oh i agreed to race but from a roll 65-120

later

Good choice, you will show that Neon whats up. He just gave you the advantage considering that is basically your third gear and your torque. His car might be quick off the line due to gearing but on a longer run you will rape him.

I'd honestly think you'd be at a disadvantage going from a roll. From a stop you have fat tires, high torque. From a roll, hes light, got good gearing, and more of a rev happy car. Run him instead of bitching about him being a *****.
