maybe once in a while, but you're getting carried away when you say all the time, doncha think? I'm well aware of the LS1's power, but the ones around here appear to have SH*TTY drivers

Actually that's not true at all, just the ones that go to that track. I know a couple guys around here that drove their LS1s BONE STOCK to a 12.9x run. One is a stripper 01 Z28, the other a stripper 02 Formula.

Hell I got the time in my sig with that horrible 60 and 161k on my motor. I think a BIG reason for the underestimation of the LT1 power plant comes from bad drivers. The difference between a 14.2@99 with a 2.2 60 and a 13.89@100 with a 2.0 60 ft is all driver. Same car.
And there are many, many, many, many LT1s in the mid 12s with just a few bolt ons.
If you're still curious (i.e. I havn't bored you yet) check out the LT1 section on ls1tech.com. And also check out camaroz28.com, both are excellent LT1 resources.

Any year LT1 makes 300+hp at the crank and 350+ lb ft of the good stuff. They were underated just like every other GM V8 over the last 20 years. A stock LS1 will make 400hp on an engine dyno and a stock LS6 will make 460.
Those wheels are GTO wheels for those that are wondering. Another car that is underated

i did alittle test tonight coming home from some big festival/end of summer bash we have near where my highschool is...
I wanted to see if i could get a car to play around with me on the 2 lane sections of road that i had on my way home. First i got behind an older El Camino (no clue what year, but it was like between 75-84 i would guess). He wanted no part. The car was in good condition, with what seemed like a muscle car exhaust.
At the end of the first stretch of double lanes i car comes flying up and gets between me and the el camino right before the merge back into 1 lane....its a late 80's fiero. Looked really nice from the back. Anyway, i follow him very closely up until the next 2 lane stretch and flash him the brights a few times but he doesnt want to play around either.
Dont know whats up
?? Like i said before im not into racing but i cant even find someone to play around with. I guess its a good thing, however. I mean no good can come from racing or playing around....i just find it amazing that no one has ever tried to race or play around!!!!

Alrite guys...now instead of making a new topic, i figured id just ask this theroretical question in here...
I was talking to this kid who i play football with today, and hes got an 84 mustang with the 5.0 and a 5 speed. I thought that it would murder my car, and i told him that...but i just checked and in 84 the HO 5.0 only had 165 HP...and hte SVO was the fastest model (which ran a 7.5 0-60 time). Using common sense, i would therefore assume that the 84 stangs with the 5.0 were even slower than the SVO's, which may in fact put it into L03 teritory (around an 8 second 0-60 time). Basically, the car is a stick and i seriously doubt this kid (who is completey uncoordinated and clumsy) knows how to drive it good, not to mention its probably not in good tune. The question is, would my car beat it stock? And if not, how would my car fare once i put a 3" hooker catback and open element on??
I seriously would never race this kid because his such a dufus, but i would like to know theoretically if i could beat him.

ill say maybe on that, im no mustang expert. i did race a early to mid 90s mustang at the track. he wasnt that fast. if i could have got traction(see traction in racing board
) i would have toasted him.he couldnt have run faaster than a 15. the badge on the side said GT4.6 and he had a......well it wasnt a hood tach, but it has a tach on the outside of his car. i dont know what he really had.

yeah stangs are fast. my brother owns an 87 mustang GT, which is a lot heavier then the LX's. dont get me wrong, he put alot of money into, but mostly for looks. as for the motor, the block is STOCK, gt40 heads 1.6 roller rockers, cobra upper and lower intake, mass air, and underdrive pulleys. AOD rebuilt transmission with 2200 stock converter. traction bars. he runs 13.48 at the track. and didnt put much into the motor. i have nowhere to host a pic of his car, so i wont. lol.

Well the car i was referring to was an 84 5.0, which only had 165 BHP out of the box. The later 5.0's are completely different animals that an 84. I seriously think i could smoke that 84 5.0. But as i said, the kid is complete dufus---The kind of kid to take his eyes off the road to do something stupd in the middle of the race, loose control and hit the other driver. I would never race unless it was at a drag stripe, but i believe theoretically i could probably whoop him.

yeah the earlier front ends are NASTY..
yeah my bro has shorty headers, and 2 1/2 exhaust with 4" tips coming out the bumper, didnt meantion that.
but for stock cam, stock block, stock pistons, its great ET times.

ive seen so many slow 5.0 mustangs its rediculus, and if they are actually fast the driver thinks hes got the fastest car in town. i doubt you can just bolt on some better parts and suddenly your in the twelves.

yeah well 2 things. its a GT which means take off all the ground effects he'd be closer to 13.1-13.2, now if it was a 5 speed it would be in the high 12's.
so they could do 12's with bolt on's, but not all.

wow i thought there was a very little difference in weight .... 100 pounds is equal 1/10 of sec i dont think it would weight that much of difference.... my buddy told me their is a 5 pound differnce... and a 84 5.0 why even mention that it almost as bad a 4.6 (96-98).... i just want point somethin out i saw at the track was the super charged 4.6v8 were barely being stock ls1!! that was great

yeah maybe i am exaggerating a little, but ground effects weight alot, even still with a stick he'd be in the 12's.
but yer right, the gt40 heads and 1.6 roller rockers cost 1300 canadian, upper and lower cobra intake 600$ canadian, headers and ehxaust i think $700 canadian.
but its not the money, the post was about "bolt-on's" and im just stating.

Most 5.0s are dogged and tired and not really even capable of 13s. However the ford 302 is an excellent motor, and can be built to be fast.
